So where does Apostolic succession come into play? I've searched, but have been unable to find any records where Peter himself granted his authority to Linus, and then to Cletus, and then to Clement I , and even Linus and Cletus only seem to head the church in Rome, not the entirety of Christendom. The earliest evidence that I can find on the subject is a letter from Linus to the church at Corinth where he asserts a global command to head off a schism.

Interesting, but I'm really not into Malachy's prophesies. I've read some here lately, but that's about it.

I'm new to Poping Around the House. Where do we usually get it?

As Pope you get to pick!

You really believe the Pope dictates how or when Catholics can talk to the Lord? Where did you get this idea?

If it is such a mankiller job, how was it that JPII served over twenty years, even with Parkinson's?

Really? That's news to me. Must've missed something somewhere along the line. That's too bad. Hope she gets well.

But, to me she has always looked and sounded stoned.....

I'm not too keen on the name Benedict, but then, I know nothing of Catholic Popes. I'll read up on his namesake so I won't think "Arnold" everytime I hear his name.

*****

And I think of the drink Benedictine! I guess we will all have to 'reeducate' ourselves.

I was glad to learn - from a Freeper - that St Benedict is the patron saint of Europe - from the days when civilization was preserved by the formation of monasteries, 1500 years ago.

This has been a beautiful and exciting morning. I wish the Catholic Church well and blessings on Pope Benedict XIV!

From an Evangelical Christian.

Me too! I do remember John XXIII very well, don't remember Pius XII at all.

God's blessings on our new Papa Benedict!

the Roman Catholic Church is just a sideshow now in the political world, especially since JP2 sided with Saddam. And I don't need some guy in a funny hat telling ME how or when I can talk to My Lord.

I sure am glad some people quoted that before the post got yanked.

Well... we certainly seem to be fulfilling St. Malachy's prophecies. Why the rush toward judgement day?

Don't know where you are presently (England?) but Rush Limbaugh is currently commenting on the MSM's reaction on his radio program (~1:30 PM). He's noted that the MSM is writing in one story that Ratzinger is from the "......Conservative Southern Bavarian region of Germany" in one news item.

"Sooooooooooo", said Rush, "he's (analogously) from Mississippi, is he? Just like all those religious hayseed Southern Republican Conservatives here in the US?".

*LOL*

Onward!

"The Inquisition only applied to heretical self-described Catholics. The Church has never claimed jurisdiction over non-Catholics . . . "

Tell that to my Sephardic Jewish ancestors who were shipped out of Spain to the New World.

I agree it was overblown, but it is still a black mark.
