As a Protestant I'm very pleased. Just got back from errands, had my ear glued to the radio, praying like crazy it was going to be Ratzinger or at least a conservative cardinal.

ABC radio news quickly found a guest priest to levy some thinly veiled ugly stuff against John Paul II. The guy must be a liberal.

It's a good day for Christianity. God Bless Pope Benedict XVI!! Long Live Pope Benedict XVI!!

Praise be to God!

Oh yes and there will be a civil war in US. In 2012 a huge asteroid will hit in Earth...

That's no asteroid, that's Nemesis, the rogue 10th planet with the erratic orbit that coincides with the Mayan calendar's great cycle. You better upgrade your tinfoil; I have full hull plating :)

Take it to another thread, bud; you're new here and let me be the first to tell you you're not going to be here long if you keep that up.

She recited a litany of stereotypical liberal hysteria painting Ratzinger as the Attila the Hun of right-wing Catholicism.

I'll read up on his namesake so I won't think "Arnold" everytime I hear his name.

I'm having the same problem. Arnold put the brakes on any American children being named "Benedict" for a VERY long time.

There wasn't any chance of a "liberal" Pope

There isn't much chance that a liberal will last long around here either. Oh, it's your first day.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany was elected the 265th pontiff today by the College of Cardinals. He was announced as tens of thousands of people cheered in St. Peter's Square. Ratzinger has chosen the name Benedict XVI, the Vatican announced.

""This choice will be universally denounced by liberals.."

There are LOTS of alternative churches for those American and European leftist "Roman Catholics" who want gay bishops, women priests, etc. Let them stand by their principles and leave."

It is right to say he will be denounced. In fact there will be all out open war now against the Catholic Church. I listened a bit to NPR which had on a "former" Catholic priest. Every phrase even on this most profound day for the Church was delivered to inflict damage on the reputation of the Church. It is all out war now. No doubt in my mind. You think Bush had a short honeymoon. Pope Benedict XVI's is over already!

Class move mentioned John Paul II.

Ratzinger is a class act. I believe he will be an excellent Pope.

Woo hoo! Maybe the hijacking of the Catholic church by lefties, at least as it goes in my diocese, can finally be squelched.

He is a man of God and a real believer obviously, and studies have shown these are the people that live the longest. He will be having his meals cooked by the best people around to keep him healthy,he will get plenty of exercise visiting all his faithful in Africa and South America where the greatest Growth of Catholics has come. He will have a duty to be there for us. If John Paul II had not been shot he would still be healthy and alive.
