TAMPA, Fla. -- State investigators found no evidence that Terri Schiavo had been abused or exploited by either side of her family, according to documents released by Florida's Department of Children and Families.
The agency investigated 89 complaints dating back to 2001, when Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the first time and the legal battle surrounding her right-to-die case intensified.
The calls alleged that the brain-damaged woman was being mistreated by her husband and her parents for financial gain. One complaint alleged that Schiavo's parents were selling videos of her through a Web site; another said Schiavo's husband wasn't spending money intended for her rehabilitation.
But investigators said they found no evidence that either her husband or parents were exploiting her, and often noted in their records that they found Schiavo well cared for on their visits to her Pinellas Park hospice.
The agency released the records Friday under court order.
Schiavo, 41, died last month after her feeding tube was removed for the third time, ending a bitter court battle between her husband, Michael Schiavo, and parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, over whether she would have wanted to live in a vegetative state.
The repeated allegations of abuse were based partly on bone scans showing Terri Schiavo suffered fractures and statements she made to family and friends that she was unhappy in her marriage.
Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.
Robert Schindler declined to comment there on the release of the DCF documents. An attorney for Michael Schiavo did not immediately return calls
There's no having intelligent conversations on these threads and hopefully I won't get dragged in again. I keep saying I won't and then...something compels me to try and bring some reason to the conspiracy theorists. It's a waste of my time and their, I suspect.
If that were so we could justify murder if it were done by a member of someone's family.
There has to be a line drawn here legislatively.
Same here... this time, though, was not a waste for me. Anyone reading this thread will know that not everyone cheers that kind of nastiness.
I thought conservatives were against government involvement and new legislation? It's the Democrats that think drowning the people in laws will lead to protection. It doesn't. It leads to CONTROL of the people. Conservatives are decidedly against that.
Not to mention, you can't legislate morals on the population. They come from a conscience, not a legislature.
When there is no cognitive ability and a family member knows that a person would not want to be kept alive indefinitely with tubes, the family and doctors are better equipped to handle these matters than Congress.
Conservatives used to believe the government should stay OUT of our lives, not encourage them to come in.
It's been disturbing, hasn't it?

Yikes!!! It's that dreaded P word... "Peach" !!!
Yes indeed... especially when one considers the NONE of this would have happened in the first place were it not for the pompous piety of that presumptuous poster named Peach !!!
Prevaricators (another P word, eh?) have promptly provoked the proletariat to protest by professing to profit (punily) from the proximate project! Hence, pro and con is pronounced to provide the poor proletariat with a prolixity of presumptions to pretend such profane profiteering is produced to procure and provide proprietary protection by proxy over a putrid pile of pompous Peach pits !!!
And all without proof of prior protocol which proscribes the prosecution of progressive taxation upon said pile of Peach pits !!!
Wherefore, there is promptly some probable cause to procure or produce the probative facts publico in this procedure, and NOT prohibit a peon's paltry profit margin from producing the process whereby ALL shall proclaim profit sharing pro facto... or would you prefer Peach pit pro se probation and promulgated prolicide !!!
This proceeding is prompted to produce proper product pro forma, and propounded to promote pro rata Peach pit participation... pro posse suo... pro solido !!!
Thou shalt NOT pee or poop upon this post, period. !!! ;-))
You know, you're on the wrong side of almost every discussion here! Do you even take a conservative position on anything?
Why don't you explain to us all what "conservlib" means, newbie?
Thank you.
I see we have another silly poster showing up.
I absolutely believe these people were sent here from DU long ago to stir dissent and undermine FR.
Well, I have to get ready to go out this evening.
"My point is: who lets their kid gain that much weight?"
Well, Michael would never be guilty of that now would he?
"DCF doesn't have the best record of protecting either children or families."
Welcome to Florida, The Sexual Predator State
BTW, welcome back. How was your vacation?
Second, as far as if a husband or a wife should not become "ONE" according to YOUR bible, that is a new twist, if you asked me. According to our current laws the husband or the wife are considered the closest person. If you ask me, I will agree with you that the parent should be considered closer, especially in a case like that, where the dude went on with a new life and a new family. But, you must remember in our Law and Order society, we employ ZERO common sense, and only the letter of the laws applies. Why do you think that idiot Judge rather starve that woman to death then poison her? It is a legality crap. He rationalize that he was not stopping her from eating? Hence, he was not killing her, while if he had injected her with poison, he would be killing her.
Any way, all that crazy outrage annoys me to no end. I feel sorry for Terry Schiavo, and her parents, but I get upset that the stupid "Christians" should have been using their influence, and anger to save millions of other helpless Christians being slaughtered by the Muslims, instead of wasting good ink on one individual who has the misfortune of practically no quality of life.
IT was great and I avoided these threads like the plague for nearly a week. LOL
Now I HAVE to get ready or I'll be late for a 5:00 party.
The 80 year old stroke victim who is moving around like an infant and being fed daily.
Yet another gray area..the elderly in minimal consciousness.
In this case I would call this a true "end of life" issue since the person is nearing the natural end of life.
Clearer distinctions need to be made as to what is end of life (terminal) and what isn't.
Do we now let polls decide which morals we should have? Besides, I think you'll find that the polls are turning on the side of choosing life. Look again. When worded properly, something like 79% of Americans believe Terri should not have been killed by starvation/dehydration. Fox Poll and also an ABC poll taken after the emotions settled down. Of course, if you look at this thread, maybe the emotion hasn't settled down.
I agree 100%. The problem here is sometime you get a stupid judge.
"These Evangelical type need to be Christians first and stop spreading lies against this guy"
This coming from a guy who writes "God is too ugly to show His face" and yet you're going tell someone how "to be Christians first". Hypocrite. If you know what it means to be a "true" Christian, then obviously you know you are living a lie. If there is no such thing as a true Christian, then you have no right to tell someone how to be one or that there version of Christianity is deficient. Which is it?
You obviously have an agenda against "evangelical types" that shows up in your posts and FR has become your battleground of choice. Conservative, my butt. You won't be long here troll.
If that were the case then why did the founding father's even bother to create any laws about people's rights at all....
One of the original "attempts" at a police investigation got blocked and swept into oblivion.

The detective wanted it routed to HOMICIDE ! He must of had some good reasons for that recommendation.
