Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

NY now requires a prescription for insulin
The rule wasn't changed all that long ago, though.
Well saie, sad, but spot on.
Sure does. What was that saying? All hat, no cattle?
Oy veh. I am not talking about Art Bell stuff. I am talking about public records that have been made available here. Before you insult someone, at least ask for the link to the data.
Many feel powerless, however.
If a little judge can stop the governor of the state from upholding the constitution of that state AND there is a human life at stake - God help us.
What is most disgusting is how successfully the media have drilled their lies into the public mind: "Permanent Vegetative State"; "Coma"; my favorite, "Brain-Dead". It's a "right to die" case, not a "right to kill" or "right to live".
Will the truth ever come out? Will history record this the way it has been reported? Will some media-duped uninformed moron (one of the 60% or so of Americans who wants Terri dead) be penning the history books on this subject? Will Terri be remembered as a pioneer in the right-to-die movement?
What kind of scientific or medical training did MS have at the time he married Terri?
I assume you also saw Nurse Trudy, shortly after the dumb cop.........I'll swear that Trudy was about to reveal that she and MS had a fling during her first term of employment at a facility where Terri was during the malpractice trial......this is the Nurse who swears that MS told her several times that he and Terri NEVER even discussed tubesm etc........Greta was trying to find out how/why Trudy and MS kbew each other so well, and cut her off with the same premonition I had......this is only my opinion, of course, but I wonder if others might have had the same thought......Trudy looks like a fun gal, esp 12 years ago :)
But I live in New Jersey and have not met or found a person that is in favor of what is being done to this woman!
The Left is claiming that the Right is doing this to appeal to their religious base, while the real agenda here is that the left has no use for unproductive members of their society.
Fox is reporting that the size of the protesting crowd is large and growing. Death threats flying and arrests common.
This is not NAZI Germany, and the American people will not tolerate a government that murders innocents for the crime of being helpless.
I would presume my first right was to life and liberty, but unfortunatley, there are exceptions, right to die cases everyday....you can point a finger at me, but it will not change the aspects of this case.......yes, Terri is being allowed to die.....some say murdered......my position would be that her hubby should have relinquished quardianship a long time ago......but absent that.......I think I would follow the law.....no matter how disgusting it is
Their political careers are pretty much over if they don't enforce the subpoena.
Gee, think Frist will pull the nuclear option? </sarc off>
Funny,in a very sad way.
Ever hear of a place called "Nuremberg"?
It's no use, Lisa. People need a scapegoat, and Jeb Bush has been chosen. He has been one of Terry Schiavo's strongest advocates for years...but nobody cares.
