The blast from the 38 mm handgun produced a surprisingly strong kick, one that caused Audrey Sementilli to shake her head as she placed the pistol back on the counter in front of her.
"I didn't like that one," said the retired teacher. "I'll stick with my Glock."
Sementilli was one of eight St. Louis County residents taking part in a gun safety course Saturday. The eight-hour class, which started in the Florissant branch of the St. Louis County Library and ended at the Piasa Rifle and Pistol Club in Alton, covered everything from the laws of justified force to safety and basic marksmanship. At the end of the day, students were ready to apply for a state concealed-carry permit.
The problem is, fully a year after Missouri became one of 46 states to offer such permits, St. Louis and St. Louis County still refuse to issue them.
But this may soon come to an end. A bill pending in the Missouri Legislature would remove the financial roadblock used by local officials and force the city and county to fall in line with the rest of the state.
Statewide, about 16,000 background checks have been requested for applications for concealed-weapons permits. A Missouri permit costs $100 for three years and $50 to renew.
Last year, the city and the county decided against issuing the permits, saying the new law violated the Hancock Amendment, which prohibits unfunded mandates.

Did that clear it up for anyone?
Newspapers allow far more errors of fact in gun related stories than in any other type of story. They are utterly unwilling to fact check this type of story.
If they run a story on an esoteric medical procedure, the paper would require the reporter to run the medical issues past a doctor, often two different doctors to ensure that the terminology is correct, but they won't do the same for stories with military or firearms terminology.
It doesn't help when the paper has stabbed in the back everyone in the community involved with firearms.
This is getting better and better. They have now "corrected" the article to read: a .38 mm hand gun. (Click the link)
LOL!!!
-the full-auto stuff is a good example as is that on CNN about twelve years ago with the water melon--they couldn't get one to "explode" with the AK variant, so a cop shot it with his issue 9mm to get the effect they wanted--
Newsweek ran a cover picture of Martha Stewarts head on a models body a couple of weeks ago, when caught they just acted like it was no big deal.
Journalistic integrity - It doesn't exist.
I don't imagine a .38 mm handgun would have much of a kick. :-)
I got a defensive letter back from a V.P.-along with a copy of one of the articles I to which I had objected--one on "cop-killer" bullets--
Wow, that's a tiny one. I bet it wouldn't pack the wallop described above. Once those calibers get below a millimeter they're not man-stoppers anymore. I suppose you could stop or scare off your usual Liberal criminal, but serious crooks would keep coming at you. This is definitely not a home defense weapon. A lot of people think a 9MM is too small. Apparently, this new weapon is not even half of an mm.
yeah, but DRIVING a 454 firing on all 8 is a relatively awesome experience!
They finally fixed it to "caliber." I wonder if the reporter even knows what a "caliber" is, or for that matter a millimeter, or even a decimal point.
Why am I not surprised that something with a nearly 1-1/2" bore has a big recoil?
Never buy a handgun whose barrel is shorter than its caliber.
You're telling me!
We were living in my mother in laws house during a "transition" period. The bedroom my wife and I had was decorated by my mother in law to spite her other daughter. It was a bright pink color. Shocking pink, if anything.
To this day I cannot abide pink anything.
Although not the low point of my life, it's close.
I always enjoy examples of reporter stupidity. Their credibility is zero and falling.
Kind of miss seeing your posts anymore.....especially the ones about the Church of God.
Thought you would like to know.
Blessings to you and yours.
Diego
Somebody told him it had a 2" barrel.
