Refusal to give gun permits may end

The blast from the 38 mm handgun produced a surprisingly strong kick, one that caused Audrey Sementilli to shake her head as she placed the pistol back on the counter in front of her.
"I didn't like that one," said the retired teacher. "I'll stick with my Glock."
Sementilli was one of eight St. Louis County residents taking part in a gun safety course Saturday. The eight-hour class, which started in the Florissant branch of the St. Louis County Library and ended at the Piasa Rifle and Pistol Club in Alton, covered everything from the laws of justified force to safety and basic marksmanship. At the end of the day, students were ready to apply for a state concealed-carry permit.
The problem is, fully a year after Missouri became one of 46 states to offer such permits, St. Louis and St. Louis County still refuse to issue them.
But this may soon come to an end. A bill pending in the Missouri Legislature would remove the financial roadblock used by local officials and force the city and county to fall in line with the rest of the state.
Statewide, about 16,000 background checks have been requested for applications for concealed-weapons permits. A Missouri permit costs $100 for three years and $50 to renew.
Last year, the city and the county decided against issuing the permits, saying the new law violated the Hancock Amendment, which prohibits unfunded mandates.

There's a lot more to this story. Post Dispatch articles must be excerpted and that means don't post the rest of the story somewhere down thread.

I'll bet a 38mm handgun packs a hell of a kick. I'm certain this ignorant reporter meant a .38 caliber handgun.

I sure wish Maryland would allow CCW permits for people other than the annointed.

--yep--that "38mm" handgun may very well have kicked a bit--one like that would have a hole through the barrel nearly two inches in diameter--

Well, I have a 37 mm flare pistol, but it's a single-shot. Sure would like a revolver or semi-auto!

LOL
If the lady in the article was trying out a "38 mm" handgun, I can hardly blame her for not liking it. That would be quite a beast to fire - perhaps it was a revolver intended for anti-aircraft use or something...

Move across the river, I did, and will never move back.
You would even be able to carry a 38mm on your hip without a permit (might need surgery after wards though).

Mainly, it's just part of my small collection of WWII weaponry.
But flares are available, and it gets used on Independence Day!

That's cool but her's was a hand gun. For me, the Barrett is not far from a hand gun.
Unfortunately it's also not far from something I could carry concealed, either. ;^>
