Judge George Greer ruled that the State of Florida has no right to take custody of Terri Schiavo, which ruling came hours after an appeal by Terri's parents to re-insert the feeding tube was refused by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, another hearing was scheduled tonight before US District Judge James D. Whittemore .. the same judge who previously heard and denied the request subsequent to the 'de novo' intention of the law past last weekend by the Congress and signed by President Bush, in an effort to confirm that no stone was left unturned before Terri would endure legally sanctioned dehydration until death.
The day Terri dies before her time, I become a Terri Schiavo Republican. That is, if a Republican who didn't help Terri were having a rally on my front lawn, I'd run him off.
I agree. I have a bad feeling that a heavy judgement is about to come on the US for this, a real bad feeling! And honestly I hope for it!

This is a problem. It seems that people are willing to accept death as an alternative to disability. The courts are deciding that's what people want right now without Living Wills. Media are spinning how valuable Living wills are. People are flocking to Lawyers to get wills. Lawyers ,inturn, make a living at challenging written verbage family-contests will continue to abound as to the real will of the individual's like Terri whose body seeks to live without voice. If my husband was Hell bent on murdering me, he could get some lawyer to challenge the content of my will with witnesses and other manufactured wills and probably win depending on his judicial contacts.
My wish is that the executive and legislative branches of government -- at both the state and federal level -- were as committed and effective in defending their separate powers as is the judiciary.

sandy, was it you last night that told me I should have my children put my husband and me as guardian in case of death (over spouse)? I mentioned it to him and he agreed it's a good idea.
Spouse normally trumps parent in married adults, and parents normally don't have a lot of imput, unless the court removes the spouse from custody (and there would be HUGE outcries from a lot of people if MS had been a decent type who was trying to keep Terri alive, but her parents were suing to have his guardianship taken away so they could have her wishes followed, and those outcries would have been justified).
But you are very very right. I fear for all my friends who have handicapped children. What is going to happen to those children after they are gone? How are they going to guarantee a court doesn't find a way to have them "put out of their misery" by playing legal fictions?
This is one reason we have to fight to make sure the right to refuse treatment doesn't become the obligation to refuse treatment under the culture of death, and then the right of the medical/judicial community to choose who is fit to live, and all our vunerable brothers and sisters aren't grist for the death mill.

Well, you should note that every evil we've encountered the past 40 years has been established and escalated by the courts and on "precedent." They've done this with abortion and with the laws removing God from our institutions. What is happening to Terri is a judicial precedent and a very BAD one that, I fear, will be escalated and broadened the same way the other evils have been.

It is very much about all of us. And whether or not this is the kind of country we want to raise our children in.
Mine are disabled in various ways and so we have always said that when they kill Terri, we will look into immigration. We are, once again, doing that now.
Post what as a thread? Please post back to someone else because I'm on my way back to the DEATH CAMP. There are a lot of great Americans in front. That's all I look forward to is standing with great Americans who are THERE EVERY DAY AND MORE ARE SHOWING UP. They are showing more leadership than our leaders.

There's a lot of very questionable crap about Michael Shiavo, there are lots of reasonable questions about just what kind of rehab he gave Terri beginning immediately after receiving the large malpractice settlement awarded for her rehab. - Either many, many people are pathological liars, or one person is a pathological liar.
You'll surely enjoy his likely forthcoming book and made for t.v. movie portraying himself as the hero. I'll be very surprised if he and Felos don't feverishly pursue that avenue of enrichment. Oh well, for my part, there's always the remote control and the ability to resist the non-existent temptation to purchase a book about this.
