So you feel that it would be better to er on the side of death? Wow! Quite Christian of you. I suppose there is nothing that can be done to stop you from invoking the Lord's name, but I do not know a true Christian that would take the stance with which you have alligned yourself. You are truly a confused individual. And by the way, poligamy is o. k. in your "Christian" eyes? How very sad.

Other two witnesses - Michael's brother and sister-in-law or Michael's sister and brother-in law, can't remember which, but his relatives.

Scott (Michael's brother) and Joan (Michael and Terri's sister-in-law) each testified to separate conversations with Terri. Here is the summary of all of the trial court testimony on the statements made by Terri regarding her desire not to be maintained artificially:

"The court does find that Terri Schiavo did make statements which are creditable and reliable with regard to her intention given the situation at hand. ... Statements which Terri Schiavo made which do support the relief sought by her surrogate (Petitioner/Guardian) include statements to him prompted by her grandmother being in intensive care that if she was ever a burden she would not want to live like that. Additionally statements made to Michael Schiavo which were prompted by something on television regarding people on life support that she would not want to life (sic) like that also reflect her intention in this particular situation. Also the statements she made in the presence of Scott Schiavo at the funeral luncheon for his grandmother that "if I ever go like that just let me go. Don't leave me there. I don't want to be kept alive on a machine." and to Joan Schiavo following a television movie in which a man following an accident was in a coma to the effect that she wanted it stated in her will that she would want the tubes and everything taken out if that ever happened to her are likewise reflective of this intent. The court specifically finds that these statements are Terri Schiavo's oral declarations concerning her intention as to what she would want done under the present circumstances and the testimony regarding such oral declarations is reliable, is creditable and rises to the level of clear and convincing evidence to this court. (slip op. at 9)

No, it's not right for HINO's heresay to have more weight that what Terri may indicate, even if it's not in the King's english, with perfect diction!

Terri's real family wouldn't be fighting so hard to keep her if they didn't know the truth, that Terri responds to them!

Isn't it? I have to say I think it is very coincidental this is happening Holy Week! I think if they get denied this appeal than they shouldn't bother with the U.S. Supreme court as time is just no on their side. I think it is time for Jeb or George to act!

The sick judge planned it that way. He knows Terri's parents are Catholic.

He could have said 2 weeks or 4 weeks or even 6. He chose 3 weeks, and he KNEW what he was doing.

Perhaps you should read some of the responses to me. I'm not the one getting emotional.

I am against anyone classifying food and water no matter how it is ingested as life support, artificial means, extraordinary measures.

Me too. Emphatically. I was shocked to find this as a statutory provision in, I think, Florida law.

The safe approach then, if you are writing a Living Will, is, if you want it, to specify that you WANT to be hydrated and fed, even by artifical means.

Already did....you dismissed it as "legalistic crap".

You do not wish to have a debate, so please do not continue to hound me.

I agree with this. I wouldn't rule out an executive order, though, but it might bring on a true constitutional crisis.

That said, I'm no expert, so I can't say for sure the President can even issue an executive order. Can anyone clarify?

Austin is in Travis and Williamson County.

Travis Co. is solidly blue. Tons of college students and wacky new-age liberals. But it all depends where you live within Austin: like anywhere, there are pockets of sanity and insanity.

Austin is still a great town, and (most) Texans are the greatest people you'll ever meet. Easy going, honest, helpful, lovers of God, country & family. It's incredibly easy to meet people.

There are a million great things to do, and the weather is wonderful. Email me if you have more questions from a transplant's perspective.

An executive order applies only to the executive branch.

I would love to see the President deliver the following statement later today:

"Good afternoon, my fellow Americans. On Monday shortly after midnight, the Congress of the United States passed a bill to protect the life of a disabled woman, Terri Schiavo. I signed that bill into law at 1:30 in the morning. This law was intended to obtain for Terri a new trial in federal court, with a fresh review of all the evidence pertaining to her wishes.

This morning, a federal judge in Florida ruled against Terri and refused to reinsert her feeding tube. He completely ignored the intent of the law, and also assumed in his ruling that the trial judge's findings were the final word in the matter.

He had no right to do this. The law expressly stated that the trial judge's findings were not to be determinative.

As a result, Terri's life continues to be in mortal danger.

I took an oath to faithfully execute my office as President, and that includes enforcing the laws of the United States.

Therefore, under the authority vested in me under Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution, I am issuing an Executive Order, effective immediately, to take Mrs. Theresa Schiavo into federal protective custody, remove her from the hospice, and take her to Walter Reed Army Hospital, where she will be re-hydrated under doctors' supervision, and have her feeding tube reinserted. She will remain at the hospital, and enjoy any and all medical care to preserve her life and health during the course of any further proceedings in this matter.

This Order shall remain in effect until further notice.

Thank you, and God bless and protect Terri Schiavo and the United States of America.

Also the statements she made in the presence of Scott Schiavo at the funeral luncheon for his grandmother that "if I ever go like that just let me go. Don't leave me there. I don't want to be kept alive on a machine."

If Terri said this, she meant as an old person, since the person she was comparing herself with was a grandmother. At the time, I doubt Terri could even imagine being, gasp, 30! I know that how I would wish to be treated would matter a lot on how old I was at the time. 88, let me go. 40, hell no!
