**Exclusive Fri Mar 18 2005 00:50:07 ET** The Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee, Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) has requested Terri Schiavo to testify before his congressional committee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. In so doing it triggers legal or statutory protections for the witness, among those protections is that nothing can be done to cause harm or death to this individual.

Did you hear Michael Schiavo on Dateline the other night. He said "they are pulling tubes on people all over the country every day" - where do you suppose he got that information or are things worse off than we thought?

A healthy albeit disabled woman is going to be put to death in a manner far more cruel than what Scott Peterson will face, and you're splitting hairs over technicalities? A little child could discern right and wrong in this case. Occam's Razor is alive and well.

Judge Greer has shirked his duties by consitently (for whatever reason, maybe $$$$$$$$$) ruling like that evidence like this is merely "interesting", but not relevant "to Terri Schiavo in 2002". Excuse me? Not relevant? How did she get into her present situation?

When Michael Schiavo utterly loses it, you'll come around.

Out of curiosity, are any of the judges that have made some of these horrible rulings up for re-election anytime soon?

We should put some effort into beating them.

I've been staying up hitting the refresh button over and over again hoping for good news. I just could't even go to bed. ....same here LJ! I have just been sick at the thought of letting them kill her. I pray all day and night for it to be GODS will that she die only when he calls her home!

Same old misinformed b.s. here. Terri Schiavo is not 'wasting away' at all. Where were you and your fellow 'mercy' killers when Christopher Reeve completely lost the use of his body, needed to be fed, and needed a RESPIRATOR to breathe???

I didn't hear the cries from the death crowd out there to pull Reeve's respirator because "he was wasting away, was totally paralyzed, had failing organs and no hope of recovery". As far as I'm concerned the voices of death can all rot in hades with "doctor" Kevorkian.

God bless you Terri, you are serving to inspire an entire nation with your incredible will to live and your unbelievable inner strength. You are an angel.

Over the longer haul, Congress may intervene, in this case and in a class of similar cases, under the Enforcement Clause of the 14th Amendment, which states:

"Section. 5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."

Which provisions? Primarily the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the 14th Amendment:

"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

I'd say there's a pretty good chance people are trying to deprive Terry of her life without Due Process of law, and Congress has the power to enact civil right legislation to stop States from killing people without Due Process of law.

In the short haul, Blurblogger is quite right to cite Article I Section 8, which states:

"To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof."

The power to subpoena is part of, or inherent in, the legislative function of Congress; thus, Congress has the power to Subpoena Terry, and the enforce that Subpoena by preventing Florida from killing her.

This poor woman has not been allowed the treatment which would have been allowed an animal.

...because the money earmarked for treatment has been instead diverted to legal fees to kill her - while her lack of improvement is used as supportive evidence (hence "persistent" vegetative state, which itself is a lie unless "vegetables" can laugh and obey commands to open their eyes).

Perhaps there have been no replies to your comment because it didn't warrant being dignified with one, but I shall reply on the off chance that you or some other misguided person will learn from it.

Cruelty to animals is a crime.

Cruelty to prisoners is a crime. Even here in civilian life.

Starvation and dehydration is cruel

Even after a person is convicted of the most heinous crime they not only are well fed, get medical treatment -- and extraordinary measures like transplants -- they get 20 to 25 years of appeals after they are sentenced to death. It seems every court in the country gets to review every minute bit of evidence, testimony, and law. Then they do it again.

Why the rush to murder an innocent woman? She'd be treated better and have her rights defended better if she were a murderer instead of the (possible) intended victim in this case. And yet, her would be killer has been awarded almost $2 million for her care which he spent on attorney fees trying to kill her and on a bimbo who carried two of his spawn.

Tell me that his obvious conflicts of interest shouldn't disqualify him for guardianship. A five year old could tell you that what her husband is doing is wrong. Why you and the judge can't is beyond me.

No living constitution people here -- just those who believe that some of the legitimate functions of government is the protection of innocent life and the rights of its citizens.
