**Exclusive Fri Mar 18 2005 00:50:07 ET** The Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee, Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) has requested Terri Schiavo to testify before his congressional committee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. In so doing it triggers legal or statutory protections for the witness, among those protections is that nothing can be done to cause harm or death to this individual.

most people on this thread seem happy to see her external body just waste away for years and years. Talk about cruel.

her body wouldn't be wasting away if her husband-in-name-only hadn't denied her ANY therapy for many years...indeed, doctors have opined that both physical and neurological therapy could've helped her -

He has even denied her medical treatment when she was ill with a cold and with a serious urinary infection - and no dental care.

Who is the cruel one?

>I'll believe that God "wants" her to persist if she survives without the feeding tube.<

And I believe that things like the feeding tube and other advancements in medical technology are the direct result of God in the hands of scientists who create them.

It's not his decision to make.

When the courts require so many other decisions of importance (and nonimportance) to be in writing, how preposterous is it that such a decision to dehydrate and starve oneself to death NOT be required to be in writing?

We're witnessing the masses of FReepers who believe the Constitution is a living, breathing, document, written for the express purpose of being bent and twisted to suit individuals needs on a whim. This is the same thing that got the Democrats in trouble as far back as 2000 when they tried to hijack an election.

"The judge says otherwise."

THAT makes it so?

She needs out of the hands of those trying to murder her and back on the road to her recovery through rehab and therapy and under loving care and supervision, etc. ASAP. The sooner she is out of killing hands the sooner she gets to recover and be cared for like never before.

I read he turned it down. I'm sure his inflated ego wouldn't let him accept it, as he knew people would think ill of him. People like him are 100% "ME" centered. Everything is all about them and *their* feelings, *their* wants and desires, all attention always should be on *them*.

Never mind the "right to life" or "right to die".

The bottom line is that Terri is at the mercy of her husband, instead of having a guardian who would put Terri's interests first. It's about protecting someone who is not able to protect herself.

Why would it bother you to know that her parents are taking care of her and surrounding her with love?

Her husband didn't care about her, he shoved her into a hospice to die, while he is living it up with his girlfriend.

Why don't you ask yourself, why wouldn't any reasonable person just let Terri be taken care of by her parents?

Her husband was limiting access to Terri by her parents, he wouldn't allow them to look at her medical records, etc.

"I don't get this obsession with a pile of flesh and bones. That's basically what she is now. Let her go. Let her soul move on to better places."

So Nancy Reagan should have stopped feeding Ronald? I should have stopped feeding my Dad, who had Alzheimer's?

"How can people who claim to believe in God do this to her?"

I'm an atheist, and I'm for Terri.

Do you get that a feeding tube is just an alternate way to . . . get food? Like when you break you arm, you use the other one? If you break both arms, you hope someone puts the food in your mouth?

I went through a rough couple of years where I couldn't do much for myself. But my family and doctors kept trying to help me, rather than kill me, and, Lord, I'm almost back to normal now.

Whew, that was close. Glad I was married to some of the people on this thread!

A friend of mine went to work over a YEAR with a feeding tube while he battled cancer (and is still alive, lucky his wife didn't "unplug" him)

I'd limit access to people who were publicly accusing me of murder.

Well, you are dependent upon food to keep your pulse going also. However, since you can chew and swallow food, you get to eat it the old-fashioned way. Babies can't, therefore they're feed via the breast or bottle. Some elderly people, or brain-damaged people like Terri, have trouble chewing/swallowing, and therefore MOSTLY FOR THE HOSPITAL'S CONVENIENCE a feeding tube is used, not mechanical or electrical in any way, just gravity-based to put liquid nutrition directly into her stomach, where her body does all the rest. There are also many people who are not brain-damaged at all, who have a feeding tube for various medical reasons. Do you mean that since they can't eat 'normally' they should be starved to death?

This judge has ignored evidence, witnesses and so on.

Repeating, there is NO evidence, it's only her husband statement, that according to him, Terri made some off hand comment about it. Do you think based on that, people should be allowed to just kill other people?

We wouldn't want her to be in contempt of congress, would we ?

Why not? Most of us already are. ;-)
