This is a breaking news situation.
A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.
The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.
I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.
That's just great. So, let's see. Assuming the earlier report of a gun found at the scene is incorrect, he's got two Glock 22s, with between 16 and 18 rounds in each. Most cops carry two reloads; let's assume he got two mags from each deputy, and that they were 17 round extended mags (common for cops to carry as reloads. That's 36 rounds in the guns, 68 in mags, 104 total. He supposedly fired four or five times, so he's got 99 or 100 rounds of ammo, worst case scenario.
I hope you Georgians broke out the Class 3s and the beltfeds. Or at least the drums and Beta-C's.
Wow. Those are some stories.
Re the female officer - was this crime solved by looking at the perp's teeth/bite marks on the victim? I think saw a show about this as the first use of forensic dentistry.
It was a sad story because she was so new to the job, but I had to think, why would they put women guards w/such rough guys? You'd think they'd use them in women's prisons.
Maybe because that was the intent? Glad it tickled your funny bone. There's nothing most of us can do, or need to do, about the situation, so no point in getting totally stressed out about it. That of course doesn't include anyone in the Atlanta area, the state of Georgia, or by now, most of the Southeastern US. Those folks need to be locked, loaded and alert. I'm not always alert, but I am locked and loaded, and, Thank God!, in Texas, with an entire Mechanized Infantry Division and parts of an Armored Cav Division, close at hand. (The rest of the Cav is strung out between central Iraq and Texas, coming home.)
Thanks for posting that.
Now that makes me suspicious that she may have been a vindictive disgruntled woman.
I find it hard to believe that if this man was a closet rapist he would target someone he knew.
And sodomy is a pretty scary word IMO unless someone is into it as part of their lifestyle.
This man did a horrible thing today but I am really curious what actually are the facts in tha case that he felt so backed into a corner to kill people.
But ya never can tell what evil lurks in the heart of men.
Who was the guy being interveiwed on LK BTW?
Thanks again for taking the time to post that.
Unless, of course, you are trying to talk to spirits...
He's probably hiding in the courthouse :-)
"You're over their NOW? What is it, early Saturday morning??"
Yeah it was like 4am here when I said that. Had to finally pass out and get some rest.
Or maybe he did that Kayser Soze move at the end of the movie where he just changed his demeanor and then slipped into the car.
A person backed into a corner attacks those who are in the way of his escape. This guy executed two people who were simply part of the system attempting to hold him responsible for his behavior.
I think you can safely crank down the level of your empathy control without worrying about whether you're being unkind on this one.
It happened in Virginia, in 1912, as a matter of fact:
Who fired the first shot in the courtroom on March 14, 1912?
Thursday morning dawned cold, wet and foggy. A bone-chilling drizzle was falling from the slate-gray clouds, but it wasnt doing much to melt the snow that still lay on the ground. Despite the miserable weather, over a hundred spectators had crowded into the courtroom by 8 a.m.; a lucky few were warming their hands over the wood stove in the rear of the room. The Allen family was well represented: Floyd; his sons Victor and Claud; Sidna Allen; Jack Allens son Friel; Sidna and Wesley Edwards, and a sprinkling of other relatives.
What happened next will never be known with absolute certainty. The issue of who fired the first shot has divided Carroll Countians for the past 70 years and, in the words of one Richmond researcher into the case, has caused the county to shut itself off from the rest of the world.
Most witnesses agree that Floyd Allen stood up and announced to the court some-thing like, Gentlemen, I just aint a goin. A shot was fired, and for the next 90 seconds the courtroom became a shooting gallery as the Allens, Dexter Goad, William Foster and the law officers, all produced guns and began to exchange fire. A screaming, shouting mass of spectators tried to leave the courtroom at once as bullets whizzed over their heads and thumped into the courtroom walls. Attorney Bolen dropped to the floor and the wounded Floyd Allen fell on top of him. Bolen is said to have screamed at his client, Floyd, they are going to kill me shooting at you! The battle moved down the courthouse steps and out onto the streets of Hillsville, with some of the Allens hiding behind the statue of the Confederate soldier while reloading their pistols. The Allens headed for the livery stable. Back in the courtroom. Judge Massie, Sheriff Webb, Commonwealths Attorney Foster and a juror named C.C. Fowler lay dead on the floor. A witness in another case, Betty Ayers, walked back to her home and died the following day. Dexter Goad had been shot in the mouth but recovered from his wounds.
that's pretty f'ed up, dude
Good. I hope they are watching her family too.
and, even then...
I certainly have sympathy for anyone wrongly accused of any crime. But if this man was innocent of rape in this case, his actions today completely and totally destroy any ounce of that sympathy. Even if there was reasonable doubt that he raped his former girlfriend, he is now a brutal killer. Whether his girlfriend was vindictive and disgruntled is totally irrelevent to me at this point.
Must. Not. Go. There!
3000+ posts is way too many to read for what I want to know. . .
I'm an attorney that regularly visits courthouses. Out here in California there are, whether state or federal court, usually 4+ guards manning the metal detectors at the front.
I've been to only one courthouse since 9-11 that didn't have massive security for the primary purpose of keeping the wrong kind of folks OUT (Santa Barbara, which had no real security).
Does the Fulton County courthouse not have this?
What he did today has no empathy from me.
However we don't know the whole rape charge story.
Like I said could be a case of a vindictive woman, we will just wit and see if the truth comes out.
