Risk is an inherent part of politics, but few risks carry as much potential cost as the one Baton Rouge Judge Luke Lavergne recently took. In a historic move, Lavergne became the first Louisiana black elected official to leave the Democratic party for the GOP.
"If you are labeled a Democrat you will be for more taxes, more spending by the federal government and more giveaways and you will continue to hold black people in poverty, and, as far as I'm concerned, enslavement economically," Lavergne said in The Advocate.
Many believe that one cannot be both black and a Republican. Unfortunately, lies gradually become truth as they are continually repeated. For years, the Democratic party and a few elite black leaders have spouted the lie that the Republican party is a racist organization that seeks to discriminate against minorities.
These people ignore history. It was the Lincoln, the first Republican president, who ensured blacks would no longer be held in shackles. It was the Democratic party who filibustered the Civil Rights Act which could not have passed without the support of Congressional Republicans.
It is the Democrats who feature the only former member of the Ku Klux Klan in the U.S. Senate, Robert Byrd. This is the man who accused Martin Luther King of unleashing “destructive forces” upon the country. He voted against both black nominees to the Supreme Court. In 2001, he used a racial slur on national TV. Byrd then used his stature in the Senate to lead the effort against the confirmation of the first black female secretary of state, Condoleeza Rice, leading to the largest "no" vote against any secretary of state nominee since 1825.

good to hear stories like this. There was one the other week about a big time Chicago Reverand leaving for the GOP too. And a few days prior about a LA Reverand doing the same.
This needs to reach a 'tipping' point or catalyst for the dam to break. Who knows what or where it might be.... or who might inspire it.

The power of Zell continues to reverberate through the democrat party and those that vote (D).
No wonder democrat party leaders and the media threw everything including the kitchen sink in the attempt to discredit Zell Miller after his firebrand speech at the Republican National Convention . . . they knew, and were very afraid people would look deep into the ills of liberalism and all it's failings and come away with only one realization. Zell was right!
Which explains why the media keeps these stories so quiet.
The Progressive Socialist see the Blacks leaving the "Plantation" so they turn to the Convicted Felons to fill the empty ranks of the Blacks who have had an Epiphany and moved to the Right.

Liberals go into a tizzy when a african american or hispanic goes conservative or just joins the republican party.
Democrats see them as apostates, and have an very emotional and hatefull reaction which shuts down rational thought in reponse.
Keep in mind, more liberals hated Rice then hated John Ashcroft with, and alot of them began to hate Powell more then Cheney.
The left is unhinged and may start ramping up acts of domestic terror, the likes of which have not been used by the democratic party since the KKK was in its prime.

Oh, man. One of my good friends is a devout liberal/socialist. When I bring up the names of prominent black conservatives, he goes apopletic. He has actually said that it is wrong for blacks to not be liberals.
But, aparently he's happy when they become (essentially) houseboys for the libs. It's demeaning for a black to be a high up in a Repub administration, but great when they get the obviously token positions in a Clinton adminstration.
No wonder we can't reason with these people. They're not rational.
For all the BS that Democrats give us about being racist, anyone on this board would vote for a true conservative black man (or woman). It's not about color. It's about preserving freedom.
I've seen it, its really disturbing when I now hear liberals using racial slurs to describe african american conservatives.
Over on the DUmpster website, it looks like a KKK board when they start talking about african american conservatives.
I've even seen white college students talk about lynching in a positive way to describe there attitude towards black conservatives.
It used to be preached that we should be color blind, now its rejected, and its like racism is okay if its directed at minority conservatives, something that alot of minorites are starting to pick up on, and it does damage in 2 ways, it confirms racial paranoia, but it also lets them see the democratic party in its true colors.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that Liberalism is a mental illness.
I am an Asian immigrant who came here legally. When some white liberals learned that I intended to vote for Bush in 2000, they actually sugguested that I should mark myself as "white" on the 2000 Census. Nice to know that white liberal elitists know best for minority folks.
