The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.
Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).
Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.
Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.
Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.
How can the prevailing wage be higher for jobs no one will accept?
I've lived in both union shop states and free states. The mentality of union members is incredibly socialistic.
In free states, a man's labor is his to sell for as much as he can get for it or as little as he is willing to take for it.
Experience, training, ability, age, skills, attitude, race, appearances, language, religion, personality, and, yes, also immigration status factor into the amount a man can get for his labor in a free state.
Illegals sell their labor for as much as they can just like everyone else. A skilled bodyman, mechanic, or bricklayer can command high wages regardless of his immigration status.
The only people working for minimum wages are the unskilled or untrained, whether they are illegal, legal or citizens.
They are sinking in quicksand, and don't even know it.
I'll bet the President gets a kick out of it, at least some of the time. He's building a Republican majority that will last decades because of their abject stupidity.
But that's OK........ I don't mind. :o)
I think California State Employees have their own plan....and it is treated as a political slush fund (somewhat ) by the DemonicRat's.
On the Federal they have private ?Savings account in addition to a pension, don't know more details than that.
Guess I need to ask my brother.
I haven't been reading all of your exchanges on the Noonan article, but if I could just give my 2 cents.....I've always liked her okay, but that article just seemed petty and showed a hint of jealously on her part, imo, for not being involved in the speech. And, I agree with you about giving ammo to the dems. It just seemed spiteful to me.
I'm sure it will be there........
You sound far more "over-the-top" to me than Joe!!! Why don'tchew go take a Valium and call me in the morning??? (there! how's that for snarky?)
I actually don't think he is. I think maybe he and Michael were switched somehow!
Supply and demand involves the number of available bodies. The low wage jobs in American are under great wage pressure, in large part due to illegal immigration. The standard in living in that group would have slid over the last 20 years to unacceptable levels, absent government subsidies, including the earned income credit, which subsidizes low wage jobs, and further encourages illegal immigration. It is not a vituous circle. We need to have an honest dialogue about that.
I found the speech uninspired and tiring. Between the fishnet stockings behind Laura and Dick sucking on his lozenge, I was able to stay awake. I don't trush Bush. He's a liar and a scoundral.
Fortunately his border mess ought to fail in the House. He won't actually sign a budget which reigns in spending, he won't get up-or-down votes on judges, he won't get critical reforms enacted. He will, however, try to taint the U.S. Constitution with his "marriage ammendment" unAmerican, liberty-squashing agenda.
They're also now pissed at Kennedy/kerry and boxer...It may be that the old line dems are waking up to the fact that they've been overrun by socialists.
If they decide that they'll be in trouble with the people - even dems who are waking up - there may be a real split in the dem party: the old liners versus the socialists.
This would be perfect, as there wouldn't be enough on either side to bother us for decades.
Maybe the old liners could rebuild the real democrat party - which would be good - but still take decades to catch up to us.
Whoa! I'm replaying the end of the speech and just saw the big smackeroo Dubya gave Lieberman on the way out. Did you see that?! It was very poignant.
And as soon as he released Lieberman, that little worm Patrick Kennedy tried to say something to him. He looked like "Who's this squirt?". LOL!
Was Uncle Ted even there?
It is odd. Michael, his adopted son, looks more like Reagan than Ron. Hmmmm ...
I have to say that those idiots with purple fingers tonight in SOTU embarrassed me. The republics acted like democrats tonight with that hokey stunt. They should be embarassed as I bet the President was.
Different strokes for different folks.
LOL - Kennedy's legacy:long drive/short bridge and his flubbing last week
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighting Troops
Missed the whole thing entirely. How was it?
I watched the speech (Outstanding) with its very direct messages to the people of Iran, and the fool assad in Syria. I also listened tp the responces by the communist reid and pelosi.
To those communists, Harry if you think social security just needs a little adjusting, fine. Opt out of the Senate retirement system, and take social security instead. Same for your fellow communists on your side of the aisle.
To the communist pelosi...I am a Marine Combat Veteran. I resent a communist like you referring to the members of the United States Armed Forces in any way what so ever (unless of course you are asking them for terms of surrender). And if that is the case, NO TERMS. Just total surrender.
Now it has been 40 years since I read Karl Marx, but from what I remember of what I read and what I see of the demoncrap party I see no differance whatsoever. Therefore I tell every demoncrap I meet I consider them to be a communist. Needless to say we do not have long conversations.
Check C-SPAN, I am sure they will do a replay.
