STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.
Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).
Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.
Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.
Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

"Colmes may be a bed-wetting liberal douche, but at least he sounds like he's read a book once in his life."
Colmes radio show just came on in our area recently. He comes across as snide - sarcastic and very argumentative with his callers.
Very few agree with what he is preaching!! I can only take so much of it.
Just wondering how long his show will stay on the air here.

The Dems I know near my age are overwhelmingly in favor of this change for S.S. We don't trust the government to provide for us. We want our money. EVERYONE I have spoken to about this has been surprised at this proposal by the President (if their only source was the MSM) and then excited. If the Dems think for one moment that those of us with Dems friends are going to let them get away with lying about this they had better think again. We want this reform.

Lets give Condi a chance---I have always thought that Powell was rather squishy---
Condi has mentioned Sudan quite a bit when I have heard her give speeches.
I would think you would be more angry that the UN proclaimed it NOT a genocide---BTW, that was just the other day and Condi has only been SOS for a few days.

The stress on low wage jobs is palpable and real. That cannot be ignored. This lawyer is flying high. But then I am in a different category, almost totally immune from illegal immigration. The issue needs to be addressed honestly, and practical solutions proposed that do not involve self defeating protectionism, or nativism, or cutting off the vigorous immigration stream vis policies that enhance this nation, and its mission, and the power to effect it, as outlined by Bush, over the decades. I grant you, that is a heavy lifting task. It is not for the superficial. It requires a high level of good judgment, balancing the competing considerations, and sailing the ship of state between Scylla and Charybdis.

But I LOVE Ron Reagan being on MSNBC as an analyst. It really makes MSNBC look bad. He's so unqualified, so unworthy, and such a low life, mean-spirited and hateful. I think he's a bitch! May I add 'prissy' to your discription?

When I meet people like that I can't help but think of the day they will be on their death bed and realize, with regret, they spent their entire life being miserable.

well I'm just more forgiving than you........do you know what Charles Krauthammer said of the speech tonight? he said it was "pedestrian"......and he is a great conservative....Peggy had allied herself 98% of the time with the Repubs.....you mean cause she took one wrong turn you want to villify her........IMHO, that is a Dem tacitc, we as Christians and compassionate conservatives should forgive her and move on......

One of the congress critters from CA just said on CNN that Social Security $$ isn't OUR money; that the money belongs to HER mother and her friends! Ummm .. I don't think so ..

The idea is to increase wealth and provide for a retirement. You don't have a nest egg if you spend it all. And you want to leave something to your children and grandchildren. We have a lamentably low rate of savings in this country. The President listed some safeguards to make sure YOUR money is there for you when you need it. There's still a big difference over what the Democrats want: namely you'll have a personal account you own and which the government can NEVER take away. Part of the move to an "ownership society."

I always check out SciFi when the wackos and kooks are roaming about. It makes more sense. There is also a very pretty Italian babe on the Food Channel that I want to invite home to cook while I watch the SciFi channel; just to make me pay attention to her through some great food:):)
At that point, the TV goes quiet...
