STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

I though it looked familiar. A Seal Team freed him a few hours ago, btw. Saw Dan Rather with the tape of the op -- all nightvision green -- Rather was there with the extract team doing a Geraldo.

I like Krauthammer also, but he said the speech was only "pedestrian". Hm---oh well, I still loved the speech.

Juan Williams is the poster boy for affirmitive action, even though he is educated, he's as dumb as a lightbulb.

Clinton must have had failed speeches because they didn't meet the standards or Republicans.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the President say that he'd like to see workers have the same type of savings/investment plan that federal employees have? If that's the case, aren't the Dems committing terminal suicide by opposing it? I mean, if it's good enough for federal employees, why isn't it good enough for all Americans? Their opposition to it makes no sense at all. But then, why should we expect common sense from the Left?

Chris Matthews looks like he's ready to cry

My perception is that Chrissy is kinda swinging to the right lately. He's been attacking leftists and leaving the right pretty much alone.

I missed the beginning of Brit's commentary, but from what I read here on FR, Brit was fighting his residual emotions from that incredible hug.

Good point...perhaps we should just rename the Democrats as the Party of the Scribes and Pharisees...

Tell me, please, that Noonan is nowhere to be seen tonight.

My heart is so broken for the mom and dad who lost their son in Faluja....I don't want to hear a word from Peggy or anyone else for that matter.

One of the RATS says, "Thank you to the Democrats for trying to fight for us..."

Barf.

Barf is right!

Juan Williams is the perfect democrap: stupid, easily lead, and stupid.

You forgot to mention clueless and stupid :-)

'Tis time to call it a night. I'm starting to see triple (and no, I didn't participate in the drinking games).

Yes I thought the President was very clear about it. Unlike the Rats that said something to the effect that Iraq was a terrorist magnet so we need to pull our troops out asap to protect the homeland? I was thinking what in the world?

Bush did a great job tonight compared to the Rats speech.

Wouldn't it be nice to see the details of the Bush temporary guest worker program before folks lash out? This is one issue where the devil is in the details. If the Bush plan involves temporary workers filling slots no one will accept where the minimum wage is offered, while the prevailing wage is materially higher for such jobs, than I will lash out. But Bush has not clarified that point. Until he does, what we have here, metaphorically speaking I hasten to add, is premature ejaculation.
