Yankee or Dixie? Take the Quiz
Yankee or Dixie ^
Posted on 01/14/2005 11:10:39 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
Yankee or Dixie? Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
- Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
- If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
- I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
- Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
- This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

What gives? I got a 61Dixie and I'm a midwesterner...besides we call it a "beer dock" and we say "you guys" and heck we didn't have any access roads!
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs

46% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category. I'm from Michigan, so I guess that means we are "barely" Yankees. I am 44% Yankee. Did you notice how many terms were Great Lakes or Michigan?

I grew up in suburban Chicago and lived in NYC for 17 years. I took it first and was tagged at 49% "barely in yankee territory". I was rated 39% "definitely Yankee territory" so I don't know how this test is being scored. I lived most of my life in Wisconsin with a couple of years in Illinois and Mississippi and I know some of there words were slotted into the wrong regions.
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
I scored a 92%. I'm from Kentucky, lived in California for seven years and currently reside in North Carolina. It's funny anyway!
To: Hillary's Lovely Legs
48%, barely into the Yankee category. I am sooooo ashamed. Someone might think I'm a southerner.

To: munchtipq
65% Dixie. (Tulsa, OK born.)
I remember when I was in College I met a girl from R.I. She was looking for a "bubbler" and I was perplexed. She kept asking me where the bubbler was, so I asked what she was talking about. (Water fountain.) Interesting (to me) that one of the questions on the test involves this word.

61% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!
LOL! I grew up in SoDak and Wyo! The only reason it's even that high is due to my grandma's Mississippi upbringing (she's got a great fried chicken recipe) and the fact I've spent most of my adult life down South.
ROFL...this is just funny!
