You put it in a proper perspective. On stage people act for money, off stage they could be anything good or bad. I don't think Arnold really is a Terminator either! lol

Well here we have the Fuddy Duddy wing of the Republican Party that's shocked, Yes Shocked that an allegedly vile person like Kid Rock be asked to perform at the Inauguration. "GIVE ME A BREAK"
I may not like the guy's music but he supported Bush, went to the convention, has been to Afghanistan & Iraq several times to entertain and support the troops, My God what do you want.
I for one say he ought to be allowed to be there and perform. I am Damn tired of this Double Standard Crap and Hypocrisy!!!

He was invited by people who didn't realize that KR is a liability.

Child's Ballads have more extreme events -- Lizzie Wan, anybody? -- but Burns had more explicit language. Some of his poems would make Kid Rock look like Pat Boone.

You a Fairport Convention fan?

"What is 'decency'? Who defines it? As far as I'm concerned, the FCC is indecent with their censorship."

Geez Dan -- I've seen you posting at FR for a while now. I think you'd recognize "indecency" if you saw it.

"The problem [with banning Kid Rock from the Inaugural] is that this reinforces the image of the GOP as a bunch of old rich country clubbers that want to ban fun. That hurts the GOP in some areas as much as the dems are hurt by being a bunch of aborting wimps who tax and spend us while grabbing our guns."

I respectfully disagree.

Kid Rock has already performed for the troops several times; The GOP "Big Tent" has been fairly open and tolerant of pro-"choice" Pubbies AND RINOs; And it's the "Country Club" Republicans who are THE "moderates" of the party.

The issue at hand is NOT "censorship"; Given Kid Rock's genre of "entertainment," it's rather the question of propriety of such a performer at a venue like THE WHITE HOUSE.

Do you really believe young people in this country are basing their future vote on whether Kid Rock performs at the Presidential Inaugural?

She'll be 18 this year. At least she's wearing more than Britney did in her first RS feature. :^)

Perhaps. But one of the points many are trying to make is, once invited, dis-inviting him is at least as large of a mistake. Not to mention bad manners.

What should we have instead? Wayne Newton? Debbie Boone? Some stupid Christian rock band?

Here are some fun lyrics for the Lewdness-Thumpers here - let's all us conservatives sing together!! (Hey, a sense of humor is important, ya know.) :o) :o)

To the tune of Rubber Duckie!! A onie ana twoee ana.....

Rubber Duckie Lib'ral, you're the one,
You make Freepers lots of fun,
Rubber Duckie, I'm awfully fond of you;
(woh woh, bee doh!)

Rubber Duckie, joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise! (Tweak, Tweak!)
Rubber Duckie, you're my very best friend, it's true!
(doo doo doo doooo, doo doo)

Every day when I
Make my way to Free Republic
I find some little fellas
Just a spoutin' and a sputterin' and a spiffin' away!
(rub-a-dub-a-dubby!)

Rubber Duckie, you're so fine
And I'm lucky that you're so PC!
Rubber duckie, I'm awfully fond of you.

(Tweak a liberal every day, it's fun! Adds years of joy to your life!!) LOLOL!!!

Look, guys, if Kid Rock is basically contrary to mainstream conservative Republican values, don't you think he'd be an embarrassment to the President at this?

Hell, the Childs ballads (trad British folk music) have lyrics that for their day would have made Kid Rock seem tame by comparison.

The Cantebury Tales are bawdy. Shakespeare is very bawdy.
The Odyssey has racy parts. Honest portrayals of human sexuality with all its beautiful, beastly and ugly parts is not exactly new stuff.

Sexuality is a necessary part of life, as necessary as breathing. Some people need to face the facts, deal with things as they are , grow up and get over it.

Remember that Rubber Duckie was sung by a Gay Orange Man on Sesame Street.

It beats the alternative which is a picture of KR standing the Bush twins with a caption of "I'm going to f*** some ho's after I rock this place". We don't need that.

"I'll bet you can trace your family history back to the inquisitions."

I'll bet you can trace YOUR family history to the wailing dungeons of the Dark Age's sanitariums.

And yet, one MUST have escaped as proven by your existence.

So that makes it okay to recind an invitation to perform? Speaking of propriety, I wonder what Emily Post or Miss Manners would have to say about doing something like that.

Nothing like saying: "Thanks for your support. Now go away, since we've got the Congress and White House. You're good enough to help us get elected, but please don't hang around and dirty the place up."

That's exactly what I am afraid of. I've been seeing this sort of thinking all over FR since I joined, and I believe FR is sort of a microcosm of the conservative movement and the GOP in general.

I am getting really concerned about this, to be honest.

You joined 6 weeks ago. It's been like this the last four years since I've been here.

Take a deep breath, please.
