Eating meals that include all ingredients known to improve cardiovascular health could add years to your life, according to new study findings released Friday.
According to an international group of experts' calculations, if men age 50 and older added almonds, garlic and other heart-healthy ingredients to their daily diets, they might increase their life expectancy by more than 6 years, and spend more time free of cardiovascular disease.
The Polymeal includes ingredients that research has consistently shown can decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. The menu includes wine, fish, dark chocolate, fruits, vegetables, garlic and almonds. All ingredients must be consumed daily in the recommended amounts, except for fish, which research suggests should be eaten four times per week.
Based on calculations using mathematical models, Franco and his colleagues estimate that people who combine these ingredients into Polymeals may have a 76 percent lower risk of cardiovascular problems, and spend many extra years of life with healthy hearts and blood vessels.

Americans could easily live a longer, healthier lives if they ate the right foods and got off their couch potato asses.
In addition, don't smoke and don't put anything into your body that the good lord didn't put here on this earth to begin with and you'll be fine.

I love this news! LOL, LOL, LOL ! Semi-sweet choclate is the best. It is even recommended for diabetics when used in moderation.

Seriously tho, I had a heart attack 7 years ago. Resulted in CHF (Congestive Heart Failure - condition gets worse over time - progressive, etc. - struggled with edema, weakness - couldn't "do" stairs, walks, work, get out of tub, etc.
Stopped taking all prescription drugs (I'm not recommending for anyone else - do your own research ;o)) but the one specifically for heart - no statins (was originally prescribed Baycol. Didn't like the research on it - didn't take it. It later got pulled off the market!
Was taking Vioxx for pain/inflammation associated with my Osteoporosis - and we know what happened to Vioxx! (Now they're finding serious problem with Celebrex...and so it goes.)
Bottom line: I've been researching/writing about herbal medicine, supplements, medicinal values of foods, etc, for decades. And so I have been writing about and using the foods listed in this article. THEY WORK. (And they're a heck of a lot cheaper!)
I am now able to take good walks, do stairs with no hugging/puffing, no more problems with edema, no problem getting out of tub - etc etc etc.
It depends greatly on the type and source of the fish. For example, a premium fresh tuna steak will generally have much more mercury than cheap canned chunk light tuna. Domestic farmed catfish will have lower levels than some expensive wild fish.
