Not really. The very nature of your question is analogous to asking "I got a 1350 on my SAT, what did you get on that ACT?
(The very nature of your question...|
What question was that? sorry long thread.Honestly though I think I get it.If what you want out of a computer is reliability, security, innovative design and the ability to just turn it on and do what you want then by all means get a Mac, if you can afford one.Unless of course what you want to do is play games, or upgrade as you go with whatever parts offer the best price and or performance.I like my PCs but I don't have the religious devotion to them some Mac users do if I had a use for a Mac and the money to buy one I'd do it but I'm just not there yet.
That's just another example of Apple taking the leap where PC manufacturers didn't dare to. They dumped the outdated floppy, PC manufacturers did it years later. They dumped their old, slow serial ports in favor of USB, while PC makers have mostly still not gotten rid of ports that have very little hardware made for it anymore.
If you must have the old stuff, you can get an adapter. Otherwise, take advantage of the higher speed of USB/Firewire and the higher quality of a DVI monitor, which is getting cheap because for DVI-only ones they don't have to build in an analog to digital converter.
Windows is a horror from a user-interface perspective. Mac is much better, except for the Dock, which is a gee-whiz feature they developed to try to lure Windows users used to the task bar.
Yes, for the video card. Yes on three 64-bit PCI-X slots. Yes on small form-factor (if the new iMac takes up little enough desk space for you). Yes for the mouse. Maybe no on specific games.
. I wish Microsoft would hire some talented graphics artists.
Or at least one user interface specialist with the power to tell programmers they can't put their stupid GUI-ruining ideas into Windows.
17 PowerBook bump
1 gHz G4
1gig of ram memory
200 gig HD
BT keyboard
Soundsticks II
Running 802.11g on Comcast cable internet
It runs faster than my 3 GHz wintel running XP Pro
which is now a print server.
The Mac OSX can run a Fractal benchmark
and SETI
and a QuickTime movie
the QT movie does not stall or stumble.
This on 1gHz Power Book.
The hardware is IBM
And OSX is based on BSD *nix
OBTW
The NSA only uses OSX Macs.
If you are interested in national security
NOT TRUE. Apple Macs come with a DVI to XVGA adapter... works fine with all analogue monitors.
Exactly what is being "marketed", Bush?Macs. OSX. You know that. You're the biggest Mac salesman around here.
This is an announcement of an upgrade in both functionality and security of interest to Mac users. NOTHING is being sold in this announcement. It is interest only to current users of OSX and others considering it. Since you ARE NOT a user, and definetely not considering a Mac, go away; do not read it.
It is YOU who invade Mac and Linus threads and start thowing stones. It makes one wonder: Why are you so terrified that someone might prefer a computer that is NOT a Windows computer?
You repeatedly accuse me of being "a Mac salesman". Let me state categorically that I am not, never have been, and will not be a salesman for Apple. I am not employed by Apple or any affiliate. I do not sell computers. I am an independent computer consultant who does MOST of my work on Windows computers... and earns a lot more money off of the Windows installations at my clients offices than I do off of my clients who have Macintoshes.
Is it so hard to believe, Bush, that people who have found something BETTER might not want to share what they have found with others still stuck fighting adware, spyware and various other forms of malware.
I love my mac (Powerbook G4 867), but I miss playing Quake 3
:P
PCs are much better for gaming IMHO, but any other task... NO!!
Multiply your 200 Mac users estimate by 50,000 and you will be in the proper ballpark.
I have no problem with that. Merchandising is good for the country.
Hey B2K - does this mean I've been dethroned?
Cheers! CC :)
I use my Macs for everything. If you want to play games, a $300 PC, sitting dedicated for that, is no different from an X-box or other gaming rig... For real computing, go MAC!
$300 PC, sitting dedicated for that, is no different from an X-box or other gaming rig
Not quite true, There are alot more games available for PC than there are for any of the game boxes, many for free.A $300 PC ain't exactly a gamer, unless you like really old simple games and have an old OS to play them in.Finally I can't stand the controllers that come with modern game boxes. There literally hundreds of PC games that can be played comfortably with nothing more than a mouse and keyboard.
I would not know... I am not much of a gamer. I bought my Macs to use as tools. I use a windows emulator to run the only MS Windows program I own, Flight Sim 2000... because it is not Mac supported...
I also use Office and wish I had a good alternative... besides that, I only use Mac compatible programs. My wife picked up one of my QuarkExpress CD's, and loaded it onto her G3 PowerBok. She sat down and built an eBay design in a couple of hours with no training, other than her Mac acquired skills... All of Mac programs usually use the same keystrokes, the same linear function, and GUI. The programs are more intuitive in their uses, and act as if they are built together with the OS.
You would think that Apple planned it that way! (sarcasm off)

"The refurbs are fully warranted and you can purchase AppleCare for them (a must for serious computerists)."
Better yet, take a class and learn how to take care of your PC. Then you can dispense with the AppleCare and enjoy a platform that can run Windows, Novell, Linux, Unix, and etc. as opposed to being an Apple Zombie.
Apples are great computers, no doubt. But they have EVERYTHING in common with Betamax when it comes time to do anything with them.
"Admit it - your claim that most hackers are Mac users is stupid, and absurd."
Friend of mine who works for Apple at their Elk Grove - Laguna site in AppleCare says most Apple users are stupid and absurd.
I've turned down three offers from Apple to work at that facility and I don't regret it. They have layoffs with the change of seasons.
They may not be a dying firm, but they are far from being a healthy firm.
And if, in the highly unlikely event they get a significant market share, their business practices make them ripe for an anti-trust suit. Apple actually does the things Microsoft was accused of - it's just Apple is insignificant in terms of market share.
If Apple belly-ups tommorow Apple owners are hosed. Packard-Bell owners can still buy PC parts of the shelf at Fry's. Hell, I can get stuff for my TR-80 and my Altair at Fry's.
But my Lisa sits darkened without hope because Apple will not license parts they don't make anymore.
"because it is not Mac supported"
is a very long list.
You can also hack an X-Box and make a pretty decent PC out of it if you get bored with games.
Most Mac users never have to call Apple. Their computers just work.
I've turned down three offers from Apple to work at that facility and I don't regret it. They have layoffs with the change of seasons.
Somehow, Apple offering a non-Mac user a job three times and being turned down three times just doesn't make my list of all time believable things. Like any other place, you make an application for employment. Did you apply three times merely so you could have the pleasure of turning them down? I doubt it.
