There are two things that keep me from jumping over to the Mac: immediate hardware customization (can I upgrade a Mac's video card when a new one comes out? Can I get a PCI-Express Mac? Can I get a Mac in a small form-factor case? Will that new Logitech MX1000 mouse work on the Mac?) and gaming (I can't play Half-life 2 on a Mac, period.)
I'm sticking with a customized version of Windows until other OSes get some versatility to them. When I can run modern games on the Mac and be assured that any piece of hardware I may want to buy will work, then we'll talk.
OS X does have a great desktop design, at least. I wish Microsoft would hire some talented graphics artists.
I'm an old man so games and design are lost on me.
I appreciate the utility of Aqua but where I really get my money back on the Mac is X11 based stuff.
As a productivity tool, Macs seem to be pretty good.
As an entertainment tool... nah. And it looks like Apple is missing the HTPC boat.
You b@st@rd!
Bingo... the appeal of the PC is its customizability.
Apple is missing the HTPC boat.
What's the matter? Did you catch a virus or something?
You must be some sort of evil genius, cause I'm on a Mac too!
And what else do liberals produce that you can say that about :o)
... And they said that Mac viruses couldn't happen.... Now we know the truth...
That's curious, because I have a Viewsonic tube display connected to my Mac, with a cheap Belkin VGA adapter.
Here's an iron-clad fix... hardwire it to an airport express ;o)
That was the only way I could integrate my xbox (wired to the base station) and my mother-in-law's gateway (wired to the express) into my wireless network without having to depend on microsoft stuff to not screw anything up.
I'll grant you, it's a bit like making "stone soup," but it does make the stones rock.
I thought Apples didn't have VGA connectors? You would have to install the one you have by yourself? I once was given an Apple monitor and it had an odball connector
Yup. And unless you have first-hand experience, you have no basis to dispute the claim.
2 What are the specs? Do you not know the specs of your machine?I know the Dell I bought two years ago with a 17" monitor,2Ghz processor, 60GB hard drive,DVDR burner, and 256 megs of RAM was about $600.Since then I have spent around $200 doubling the RAM and adding a 128 meg video card.
Yup. The problem is you wouldn't understand the answer. You seem to think you would be speaking spanish if you just switched your english words for spanish. Languages aren't one to one compatible, and neither are computer platforms.
That's correct, they don't. This particular one (G5) has a DVI and ADC jack on the Nvidia card; I didn't want to spring for a new monitor when I bought the G5, so I bought a DVI-VGA adapter for ten bucks IIRC, and that lets me use my 20" Viewsonic display (which does a nice job of heating the room)!

I was just at smalldog and they were showcasing such adapters which are also fine for PCs
$20 was the prioce
This should please the 200 people that use these computers for sure.
No it isn't dark. But I am tired of Mac users acking as if everyone who doesn't use a Mac is some type of inferior creature.
WHO ASKED YOU TO POST YOUR OPINION IN THIS THREAD ANYWAY?
Flame, and you shall be flamed.
Gee, I wonder why?
They're desperate for converts because they want to create new business for Mac -- that's how fearful they are of Mac going belly up.
Hey, aren't you the guy that came up with "Republicans want to cut Social Security, so old people will starve" line?
I did post on thois thread, however, on other threads I mentioned that I am a PC user and you guys flamed me to no end. So if lyou can't take the heat, smile.
( The problem is you wouldn't understand the answer.)
LOL I see "Its a Mac thing you wouldn't understand" You sure assume alot.
