New theory on Stonehenge mystery
Experts believe the stones may have been levered into place
A fresh theory on how Stonehenge was built has been tested out by a group of experts and enthusiasts. Gordon Pipes, of the Stonehengineers group of scientists and archaeologists, has suggested that levers may have been used to move the giant stones.
They have tested his "stone-rowing" theory which involves a 45-tonne stone being levered on a track of logs.
"It's akin to rowing a boat, weights can be picked up with levers using body mass and balance," said Mr Pipes.
Mr Pipes, from Derby, combined his interest in prehistory and his skills as a carpenter to test his idea.
The method is said to require little effort and be just as efficient whether uphill, downhill or on level ground.
Many theories have been put forward for the engineering of Stonehenge, including the belief that the stones were dragged or rolled into place.
Mr Pipes is planning more experiments on Salisbury Plain next summer in an effort to prove his suggestion.
They will involve attempts to move two blocks, weighing 10 tonnes and 40 tonnes, half a mile in a day.
GGG Ping.
Row, row, row your rock?
a precursor to the democratic party? c'mon...the whole "it takes a village to raise a stongehenge" thing?
Someone went to Greece for summer vacation . . .
I have the answer...During the last ice age..the ground was buried by a glacier several hudred feet thick.. The locals slid the blocks out on the ice..little effort involved..then waited hundreds of years while the ice melted, so they could easily position the blocks atop each other on the ground, knowing that thousand of years in the future people would go bananas trying to figure it out..
"dude, hold muh ale..."?
LOL.. BTW..just clicked on your homepage..read the derivation of your screen name..Good thing you weren't a big fan of "Manischewitz Cream White Concord"

(I need to update that homepage with .....something)
That's a new theory?

These intellectual dopes should check out this retired builder's website The Forgotten Technology He has already done TONNES of research. He has videos to show how one man can set theses stones. He has more common sense than these certified Stonehengineers and their ilk combined
and BTWS.next time you're in your local winesellers, DO NOT buy a bottle of that Manny...
The old theory was always Druid levitation, wasn't it?
now, not to get picky...but yours is BLANK, dude. Pour yourself a glass of manashizzz, man-a-chevette, whatever, and type away there. (btw...I know I've read your posts before and they're interesting....so I'm quite sure you can handle a homepage!)
