BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Reuters) - An explosion at a branch of Citibank in Buenos Aires on Wednesday killed one security guard, police said. "There were two artifacts -- just one exploded. The second one must have been detonated by the fire squad," Police Chief Francisco Santos Miglino told reporters at the scene, adding that the security guard at the bank had died.

An explosion also hit a branch of Argentine bank Banco Galicia in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, but no injuries were immediately reported.

Just got back from the Citibank on Santa Fe and Colonel Diaz street (which is near the Alto Palermo mall for anybody familiar with Buenos Aires)... This bomb must have been all the way inside that branch office (not the outer area where the ATMs are )so I could not see much. So these pix are a bit of bust but that's all I could get. As you can see there is not much visible damage from the outside. There was some media and a few police/detective-types.

It really doesn't matter. Terrorism as a political tool has to be stomped everywhere. Hostages/ kidnapped victims have to be considered dead. No sanctuary considered inviolate in purging terrorists of any stripe. Civilization is at stake here - nothing less.

Rumsfeld, Hostettler Warn US Borders at Risk toTerrorism
CNN.com/Lou Dobbs Tonight ^ | Nov. 16, 2004 | Lou Dobbs
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1281801/posts

DOBBS: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is warning of the threat of terrorists entering this country through the same routes as those used by illegal aliens. Secretary Rumsfeld, traveling in South America, warned that enemies look for weaknesses and take advantage of them.

DONALD RUMSFELD: The risk is that some of these human-smuggling routes into our country from this hemisphere could be used just as easily for terrorists. ~snip~

You are IN Buenos Aires right now? I'm so jealous. Do you live/work/study there? Or just visiting briefly?

I haven't been back there since 1991. I'm dying to go back for a visit.

Recoleta...San Telmo...Calle Florida...La Boca...Plaza de Congreso...

Hmmm the city looks ok. I haven't been back there since I left in 1962. I am sure the place has changed a bit since I was there. I will have to return there before I die, if only to visit the graves of my brothers who are burried there.

I've heard that BA has changed dramatically in just the 13 years since I've been there. You might not even recognize it.

What part did you grow up in?

I grew up in Belgrano. Ciudad de La Paz, one block from Cabildo. I was 9 when I left but still remember the parks etc..

Belgrano was nice. I went to the zoologico once when I was there.

I always liked Plaza San Martin--I think that was in Barrio Norte. And Parque Lezama, I believe, was beautiful...and where I had to pay my one and only bribe to a cop to get out of a moving violation.

All this Argentina talk...I'd offer you a matecito, but I'm on the road and don't have any with me.
