An iconic image of the Iraq War. And a Kentucky Country boy, Marine Corporal James Blake Miller is in the middle of the action. The Marlboro GI lives and recalls the famous Marlboro Cowboy ads of yore. There's something about the photo that makes you want to cheer on our troops in Iraq. Semper Fi, Cprl! You've earned the country's affection.

He's one fine specimen of a soldier and his picture will represent all our soldiers who fight the war on terrorism. He may be smoking a Marlboro, but he and all the others are "smoking the butts" of terrorists.

The LA Times never misses an opportunity for the cheap shot:
"The photo seems to have struck a chord, as an image of America striking back at a perceived enemy, or just one young man putting his life on the line halfway across the globe."

"PERCEIVED" enemy??? PERCEIVED? Good God these people are infuriating.

If you didn't read the entire article, please read it. Miller is STILL a very young man...and from the description of his life in Kentucky, a very normal, rural type, too. Read how his hometown was named, etc. His mama is only 39; she must have had him at an early age. I can just hear her calling him to supper, "Jimmy-Blake, come on in. Supper's on the table!"

Good story; I really hope he makes it home O.K.

The Los Angeles Times and other publications have received scores of e-mails wanting to know about this mysterious figure. Many women, in particular, have inquired about how to contact him.

These Hollywood pretty boys can eat their hearts out. This guy is the real thing.

"The photo captures his weariness, yet his eyes hold the spirit of the hunter and the hunted," wrote one e-mailing admirer. "His gaze is warm but deadly. I want to send a letter."

I think the manufacturer of Marlboro will be very happy to pay him for an advertisement poster or commercial with that pic for their famous product. While I am not for smoking, I admit this pic is sure one of the top one hundred in history of war as a heroic pic, matching the scene of waving flag of Iwo Jima.

Fascinating picture. There's something strong and lively in the fellow's eyes that speaks of what he's seen and done and who he is. Deathly tired, but he doesn't look at all whiny or defeated. After twelve straight hours of combat, he looks alert, intelligent, observant, and and full of fight. It's the look of a warrior. I appreciate the work this brave young man has done for his country, and I appreciate his modesty.

We pray for our brave men and women serving in the war on terror!

In view of the fact that he has a "bloody nick on his nose" I think John Kerry would have already applied for at least one purple heart and a dismissal from duty.

Thank God Kerry is stuck away in the Senate for at least 4 more years!

Anti-Smoking Libs React to Marlboro Man in Iraq Photo In

Related thread with Smokin's identity, etc.

He Fights On With Dwindling Supply of Smokes [Marlboro Man]

As the troops moved into Bagdad last year, we had the pic of Cigar Guy.
Now, as the troops move through Fallujah, we have the pic of Marlboro/Cigarette Guy.

Libs don't like. Tough. Give them a quarter and let them call someone who cares.

Seeing those kinds of pics [our military personnel in their circumstance] gives the rest of us feelings of pride and honor for these brave military men and women.

I wouldn't mind a bit if he showed up on my doorstep to see my daughter. In a couple of years, of course. :-)
