Heard this on the t.v. news while on the net. So I don't have a link, source or tv station (Sorry Mr. Mod)
Well, until the 70s the French schools on which the Prussian were based were admirable for the education you got there.
And the Prussian model wasn't so bad either: after all illiteracy rates in France and Germany are below the ones in the United States...
What the problem is everywhere today is that, in a world that has changed, schools haven't changed as much....
It's a she, and she is pro abortion.
I'm undecided. I don't reject the idea out of hand since the first 100 years of our nation's existence shows that we did pretty well without it.
An improvement over the existing system, an improvement which would give parents greater control over their children's education (which is their natural responsibility), would be a voucher program.
Now what do you make of the fact that government schools do not teach logic yet claim to inculcate "critical thinking skills"?
Welcome to the Middle Ages...
From your lips to God's ears.
BTW, you and people like you are one of the reasons why our family homeschools. You will get my kids over my dead body.
Folks, Pitiricus was on another thread yesterday spreading outrageous lies about the Catholic Church, claiming that "Pope Pius XII had lots of nice things to say about Hitler" and similar communist propaganda. And I inform you of this as an agnostic. In my opinion, he's a troll, looking to bait people into an argument.
Just letting you know.
Oh, and for the record?
"So you are against compulsory schooling? Welcome to the Middle Ages..."
A true liberal mind at work here - judge that compulsory schooling -must- be good, simply because it "sounds right". Odds that this guy ever checked what actually happened to the literacy rate in this country when compulsory schooling was instituted, and found out that it -droppped-? And that the same is true in the history of the UK? Zero. But who cares about results? As long as we can feel good about ourselves, that's all that matters.

It's that "exterior factors" part that we're working on controlling. I mentioned that my son had playmates who attend public, private, and home schools. Frankly, I'm a snob when it comes to my child. He's not allowed to interact with children who don't come from families that we approve of. Oh, I know that in years to come, I won't have the ability to do that... but, by then, I hope that his own internal moral compass will guide him. Nine is too early, in my book, to learn that there are a-holes in the world. That knowledge will come soon enough.
You can try and shift the odds, but the random element will always stay...
Not only can you try, you can absolutely shift the odds.
Another liberal position.
Well I am all for school vouchers...
As to the Middle Ages, go back there if you want... It will give more opportunities to my children!
"I guess they're happy that their boys will spend their lives being day laborers"
You write that as if being a day laborer is a bad thing. I bet you don't mind that YOUR home was built by day laborers. The world IS about balance as in nature. So not everyone wants or needs to be in white collar occupations or validation that they are status worthy to those around them.
First, nobody ought to be outraged, and it would take a real sicko to file suit over it, that's for sure.
Play nice. Tolerance and all that.
I believe there is truth in that. However it must be kept in the context of biblical teaching about authority and in the political context of causing the local Catholics to be persecuted ( See modern day France and Spain) .
The poster claims Jesus never existed. On other threads and now tries to sneak it in on this one.
Naturally, vouchers come with government conditions. It's the dreamed of takeover of private schools by liberals.
LOL, yeah, right.
*sigh* No, it's not true - the most that can be said is that he didn't condemn Hitler at every single possible opportunity, and that was for the very reasons you state.
However, Time Magazine quoted Albert Einstein as saying the following in 1940, while Pius XII was Pope: "Only the Church stood squarely across the path of Hitler's campaign for suppressing the truth." And multiple New York Times editorials of the time called the Vatican a "lone voice in the wilderness", and the Pope the only European leader to speak out against Hitler. Israeli scholars have credited the Vatican with saving the lives of over 700,000 Jews during World War II - if it wasn't for those evil anti-Semitic Catholics, as he would like to portray them, we'd be talking about 7 million Jews killed by Hitler, not 6.
I'm sorry I brought it up now. I just wanted to warn you, the guy is clearly a troll.

At least one other had an SAT of zero, he was murdered in the uterus.
Ya think?
So, an average of 800. Sounds like day laborer material.
I think you meant to reply to someone else?
