I'm undecided. I don't reject the idea out of hand since the first 100 years of our nation's existence shows that we did pretty well without it.
An improvement over the existing system, an improvement which would give parents greater control over their children's education (which is their natural responsibility), would be a voucher program.
Now what do you make of the fact that government schools do not teach logic yet claim to inculcate "critical thinking skills"?

Well I am all for school vouchers...
As to the Middle Ages, go back there if you want... It will give more opportunities to my children!
