Secession, which didn't work very well when it was tried once before, is suddenly red hot in the blue states. In certain precincts, anyway.
One popular map circulating on the Internet shows the 19 blue states won by Sen. John Kerry Washington, Oregon, California, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and the Northeastern states conjoined with Canada to form the "United States of Canada." The 31 red states carried by Mr. Bush are depicted as a separate nation dubbed "Jesusland." The idea isn't just a joke; one top Democrat says, "The segment of the country that pays for the federal government is now being governed by the people who don't pay for the federal government."
"Some would say, 'Oh, poor Alabama. It's cut off from the wealth infusion that it gets from New York and California,' " said Lawrence O'Donnell, a veteran Democratic insider and now senior political analyst at MSNBC. "But the more this political condition goes on at the presidential level of the red and blue states, the more you're testing the inclination of the blue states to say, 'So what?' "
Mr. O'Donnell raised the subject of secession on "The McLaughlin Group" during the weekend. "Ninety percent of the red states are welfare-client states of the federal government," said Mr. O'Donnell, who was an aide to Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

Sounds like liberals are, in fact, racists. Why wouldn't they want to align with Mexico? Why is it just Canada? I'll tell you why, cause they're racists and don't feel like Mexico is good enough with them.
Consider that...
Don't be embarrassed--if we didn't have a few red state people in the blue states we would have no chance of the blue states changing to red states. Hang in there.
This is the predictably infantile, anti-intelliectual response from the Dems. Much like the precocious five year old who throws a hissy-fit after losing at a party game and stomps home, with this insanity they further cement their image to the rest of the country as spoiled, non-introspective brats who look to the Quebec secessionist movement for inspiration as the best way to run a nation. My hope is that they keep on with this for the next four years, as it will allow the Republicans to coast to an easy, nearly-uncontested victory.
CBS: We report -- you deride
CBS: We get our news from reliable White Horse Souses.
CBS: Keeping you (mis)informed!
I'm with you! Instead of electoral votes, change it to acreage, land mass. Ha, then we can have a new coast.
The Blue state people really have a false sense of exaltedness. None of them seem to realize that food and timber come from Red areas. They don't seem to comprehend that Blue area banks loan money to Red area farmers and that Blue area software companies sell their product to Red area businesses. I'm sure none of them realize that Louisiana and Mississippi produce a large amount of the drugs that they want at low-cost, whether they buy them here in a Blue area or in their possible new Canadian homes.
Well, we've tried cutting their taxes, but their Senators voted it down.
The notion of a wealth transfer from blue to red is because when the Federal Government makes purchases, it must do so in places that actually produce something tangible (that certainly wouldn't be NY, NJ, CT, VT, HI, DC, MD, or MA), while defense activites are credited to those states that host military bases - mostly red states. On the other hand, lots of corporations are incorporated in DE and NY, so they get credit for corporate taxes not really earned there. And the choice of large numbers of wealthy people to live in NY, LA, SF, BOS, CHI, NJ, and CT is the other reason they pay an excess of taxes, not because they are more productive.
"In a telephone interview, Mr. O'Donnell said the red states that went to Mr. Bush "collect more from the federal government than they send in. New York and California, Connecticut the states that are blue are all the states that are paying for the bulk of everything this government does, from ... Social Security to everything else, and the people in those states don't like what this government is doing."
If the blue states would keep their old people this wouldn't be the case.
Oh, it was. 11,000 vote margin. Massive dem/527 voter registration drives with tons of stories of wrongdoing. 5,600 invalid addresses in the city of milwaukee. No ID requirement to vote. Same day registration. Lax absentee ballot standards.
If GWB didn't tap tommy thompson for HHS, he would have been governor to sign the voter ID bill, and GWB would have won wisconsin as well. Luckily that mistake didn't cost him the election.
Assuming they could actually pull of this utterly laughable idea, how would they defend themselves? The Great Pink Fleet? The Army of Homeless Dopers? The UN? King Kofi the Kleptocrat? The Coalition of the Fabulous (to borrow a Coulterism)?
Wow! These folks' cheese has done sild off their collective cracker!
Who's up for a Sherman-style march on NYC, San Fran, etc??
Bring it on!! I know one well armed Red county in Washington State that will defend itself. Top NW most piece of the State. Of course, Bangor Nuke Subs and Fort Lewis might give us a hand.
Gawd the clowns are fools!!
"The segment of the country that pays for the federal government is now being governed by the people who don't pay for the federal government."
I so confused. I thought that the Republicans were the party of the rich. Now I hear that we are the party of the poor?
The only buzzing Ive heard in this blue state (WI) is the crunching of numbers as we try to figure out how much it will cost to rent enough U-Hauls to move Madison to Canada.
Watch it!
We in the Great Northeast of Philadelphia have been trying for 25 years to leave the city. Our precincts up here bleed red, but we are overwhelmed by the inner city blue from the black block vote. We have 25% of the population, but pay 50% of the taxes, while receiving 10% of the common government services like police, roads, parks, etc.
If you are going to lop off Philadelphia, please let us lop ourselves off from the city first.
LOL Go for it Blue States. IT will be a pleasure to live in a land devoid of your influence.
