***Operation 4 More Years - Situation Room - Day 1 - LIVE THREAD***
Various | 2 November 2004 | Various

Posted on 11/02/2004 2:48:56 AM PST by An.American.Expatriate

As I and many of my fellow expatriates are often hard pressed to get any non-biased information from the media (we are often stuck with CNN-International!!), I have decided to start this thread in the tradition of the Operation Iraqi Freedom Situation Room threads.  I hope this meets with the approval of Jim & John and the Admin guys . . .

The purpose of this thread is to be a place to collect information from all sources into one area for discussion.  Specific threads for specific topics and cross linking are highly encouraged.

I just returned from voting. I voted for Bush even though I must have heard over 1,000 times that Kerry will win NJ.

My coworker (who lives in the heavily GOP Westfield, IN) waited over 1 hour in line to vote this AM. I, on the other hand, live in a mostly Dem area of the city, and had no line at 6:30 AM. This is the Indianapolis metro area.

I don't get to vote until after work, not that it matters in Nebraska (go Fortenberry!). It's driving me nuts though knowing the polls are open and I'm an hour away from my polling place.

I voted in New Jersey's Union County at 6:20am. My fellow Bush supporters in the queue were confidently greeting each other good morning and shaking hands. You could tell that something big is going on at the polls today.

God Bless Our Country

All the good jobs gone to India? I've known some people in customer support and they wouldn't consider it a *good job*!

Just voted in a northern suburb of Fort Worth Texas. Polls opened at 7:00 am, got there at 6:30 am and was third in line. Woo hoo. Done voting by 7:10. Took my time with the paper-connect the lines-ballot. Did not vote straight ticket but made sure I checked off each Republican and one Libertarian individually. (Heard once that straight ticket votes resulted in a count malfunction a few years back in early voting and always check each candidate individually since then. Besides it lets me vote more!)

From 6:30 am on the line grew steadily. The poll watchers and elections judges tried to get everybody wrapped around in the gym because it was raining slightly outside. I knew that wasn't going to work as they would be looking over my shoulder by the time I voted if the 'congo' line kept wrapping around. So they had everybody move into adjacent hallways. Everybody in this 80 percent Republican enclave was well mannered during the line move that encompassed 200 people at 6:50 am.

I had a good time talking to two other men and borrowed a gal my pen so she could sign here election card. Told her it was my lucky Bush pen. She said she was voting for him.

Bush looked great last night on C-SPAN at SMU in North Dallas. What a great family. He and his wife are just a real wholesome couple. Makes you feel good to see him.

Keep the prayer going and stay vigilant. Thanks to all the Freepers that are on the ground working this election day to hold the line against the armies of Mordor.

I just voted in Greenfield, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. I moved here last August, and while I enjoy it, I always tell everyone it's the biggest small town in the world. I have voted in two other states (Kentucky, where we had voting machines and very strict electioneering laws and Missouri, which had punch cards-chads!!!- but the people there were very strict. I have never felt like I was living in 1950 until now.

OK, here goes my rant. :)

1. I vote at at school and arrived at 6:50 for polls opening at 7. I pull up and there are KERRY EDWARDS SIGNS at the entrance to the school!! WOW was I hot. I almost split a gasket right there. I walked into the place and complained and I got the "well is it on school property? I don't know- that might not be illegal" as the signs were next to the road and outside the fence of the school. I said, as politely as I could "Well, it's VERY inappropriate and I recommend you take them down." They were down when I left (thank god) or I was going to rip them down themselves and put them in my trunk and drive away so they couldn't put them up again. I think there should be a law banning political ads on school property. My tax dollars pay for that school too.

2. I DIDN'T HAVE TO SHOW AN ID OR SIGN IN!!!!!! Even in Afghanistan they mark you in some way. Nope, just walk up, give your name and address and they hand you a voter card. I cannot believe it and I am going to be writing the entire legislature (maybe this should become an action item for us Freepers in WI.) Completely ridiculous. If I have a friend that I know isnt' going to vote, I could just give her name and address and go vote for her!! UNreal.

3. Voter cards- connect the dot, la la la la la . What is this--1950??? We live in a post2000 world people!! how about a voting machine??

4. You walk up with your completed card and just stick it in this machine. That's all good and fine except the lines formed right next to these machines, and although no one saw my vote, I saw 3 people's votes. (consensus: 2 young people voting straight ticket Republican, one old lady voting straight democrat.) I don't know those people, but isn't the whole idea to protect anyone from knowing what your vote is??? I mean, what if that was my neighbor and I could never look at them the same way again!!

5. You could register to vote on the day of the election. What is to stop people from making up some electric bills and changing the address and going to 1000 different polls? I print my electric bill off the internet- it would be SO easy to forge!

Georgia has the new touchscreen ballots. Very easy to use. Even gives you a recap of your choices prior to "submitting" the ballot. Very nice.

Situation Houston:

Rain w/ street flooding this AM, Clearing later

Wife not happy, got her up early go vote before work since she drove right past the early voting place all last week and wouldn't make time.

My last statement, "Don't you dare leave once you get there! Our President needs your vote today!"

Maybe (showing ID to vote) should become an action item for us Freepers in WI

I'm convinced it needs to become an action item for all Freepers where this is not already the case. California is one state that needs it badly and that will be a very, very long and ruddy row to hoe.

I voted absentee weeks ago, and I feel sorta left out today! It's the first time I've had to vote that way! I MISS going in to vote in person! I've been bugging friends all morning to get an "I Voted" sticker for me!

I DID vote, though...and I voted, without hesitation, for Bush/Cheney!

Good Morning, LG!

I remember those connect the arrows type ballots. We used them here in Maryland for many years but thid year we had them touch-screen booths. It was easier than I thought it would be. And there's no way to make a mistake you can't correct because it lets you review your choices and change any one of them bevore casting your vote.

It was cool!

We really should start a letter writing campaign once the election is over.

I voted for Bush on my way to work in Brownsville, Texas. There was no line but another voter did come in as I was marking my ballet.
