XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX WED OCT 27, 2004 12:42:01 ET XXXXX
ABCNEWS HOLDS TERROR WARNING TAPE
**Exclusive**
In the last week before the election, ABCNEWS is holding on a videotaped message from a purported al Qaeda terrorist warning of a new attack on America, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The terrorist claims on tape the next attack will dwarf 9/11. "The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead. Further claims: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.
ABCNEWS strongly denies holding the tape back from broadcast over political concerns during the last days of the election.
The CIA is analyzing the tape, a top federal source tells the DRUDGE REPORT.
ABCNEWS obtained the tape from a source in Waziristan, Pakistan over the weekend, sources tells DRUDGE.
"We have been working 24 hours a day trying to authenticate [the tape]," a senior ABCNEWS source said Wednesday morning.
The terrorist's face is concealed by a head dress, and speaks in an American accent, making it difficult to identify the individual, but US intelligence officials believe that man may be Adam Gadhan - aka Adam Pearlman - a southern California native who was highlighted by the FBI in May as an individual most likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks.
According to the FBI, Gadahn, 25, attended al-Qaida training camps and served as an al-Qaida translator.
The disturbing tape runs an hour -- the man simply identifies himself as 'Assam the American.'

what better way to assure big media coverage than to use our own media - which will be in high gear election day... Also, to help keep the voting down.... I do not like your post - it's too believable!
brilliant
Considering Al Qaeda's previous MOO, they would likely target multiple cities.
Of these, the cities they are likely to give a free pass to attack wise at this time would be Boston (liberal Kerry turf), Santa Clara (liberal turf), Boca Raton (liberal turf); Tucson (not urban enough; state not big enough to make election difference); and Columbia, MO (same reason as Tucson).
That leaves the following cities that have had Al Qaeda-based networks: Houston (Bush/energy/large electoral target); Orlando (comparatively conservative/large electoral target + easy for intls to move about); Arlington (Bush/large electoral target); Ft. Lauderdale (large electoral target); and Laurel, MD/Herndon, VA (9/11 had at least one Beltway target for extra shock wave effect).
It is these cities/regions that need the most prayers ushered up; and these cities that need the biggest beef-up security-wise in the short run.
The sky is falling. Wish it wait until the election is over so we know how it all came out. It's time to take a vacation. Happy days!!
It also seems some of my fellow Freepers think this has bin Laden's DNA smeared all over it.
If it's something to worry about, Tom Ridge will raise the level to ORANGE, plain and simple. The President cannot afford to have a terrorist attack with a material warning sitting on his desk, and then not act on it if it's a matter of urgency.
We don't know when the tape was made. We know it was FOUND. That tells us nothing.
This struck me as a threat to the communication / power grid. The only way we would be silence is to be without TV, phone, internet. There have been several incidences of downed towers and other interruptions lately. Maybe power plants are targeted?
I'm thinking he means "stunned" silence.
You're so right, sorry, I was commenting on a couple of people who I thought had implied that ABC should have aired the tape already - but the choice wasn't only "sit on the tape or throw it straight on the air" - it was also "get it to Homeland Security immediately or else sit on the tape while claiming to do 'authentication'".....
It's not like ABC has remotely the same capacity to do 'authentication' as the CIA, etc. And this is not a case like the TANG memos where ABC might want to protect its 'scoop' while doing its own authentication (not that CBS did any) - on a matter of such immense national security importance, ABC had an obligation to let the appropriate national security experts do their own 'authentication' and responses on behalf of public safety.
It doesn't matter what happen, Kerry will use it against Bush.
If we get attacked Kerry will say, 'See America, Bush wasn't able to protect you from another attack, but I have a better plan'.
No matter what, Kerry will spin it against Bush. If we don't get attacked, Kerry will say, 'See, all this WOT is just much ado about nothing. It's just a nuisance and no real threat.' I
It is a joke. Probably made in Hollywood.
Colofornian, I don't think they will chit where they eat. They could spread out. Know what I mean? I don't think they will pull something close to their homes.
Never know, though. They are a bunch of animals with no brains.
The existence of the tape was first reported Wednesday afternoon by Internet columnist Matt Drudge, who said it was obtained last weekend in Pakistan by ABC News. Drudge quoted an unidentified senior ABC News source as saying the network was working 24 hours a day trying to authenticate it.
U.S. officials told NBC News that the tape included now-standard militant Islamist rhetoric promising widespread destruction inside the United States. The man cannot be identified, the officials said, because his face is covered by a headdress.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said ABC gave the CIA a complete copy of the tape Monday.
= = = =
They got it during the weekend (Saturday?/Sunday?) and it was in CIA hands by Monday. I'm not going to blame ABC for this. It takes at least a day to fly it here.
"At the very least, Halloween Trick-or-treating should be cancelled."
I don't know about you, but I'm staying in my bed, with the covers pulled up over my head on election day. <\sarcasm>
huh, very interesting observation.
It could have something to do with knocking down the Internet or power grids as well.
Certainly American Broadcasting Company would be mourning in silence after an attack if someone had not dropped the dime to Drudge.
We think alike.
He said the staunchest Kerry supporters are Saddam's ex-henchmen, the Baath party kidnappers and torturers, and all the other Iraqis who perceive that if Kerry is elected, the coalition forces will leave Iraq quickly.
He also said the hardcore al Qaeda type terrorists were actually hoping for a Bush victory. Not because Kerry would be tough on them, quite the opposite. He said al Qaeda really does want Bush because al Qaeda is suicidal and they want someone in office whom they can pick a world war with. If Kerry is elected and he appeases them and tucks tail, al Qaeda can't whip up the Muslims with bogeyman stories.
I know, everyone knows that Bush is bad news for the future of terrorists and Kerry is a pu$$y. But considering the utterly alien, suicidal martyr mindset of the terrorists, maybe they really do want a Bush victory. Fine, we'll give them one. Then they can kiss their a$$es goodbye for real.
DETAILS Adam Yahiye Gadahn is being sought in connection with possible terrorist threats against the United States. Although the FBI has no information indicating this individual is connected to any specific terrorist activities, the FBI would like to locate and question this person.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS PERSON, PLEASE CONTACT THE LOCAL FBI OFFICE OR THE NEAREST AMERICAN EMBASSY OR CONSULATE. |

ABC thinks it is omnipotent.
I heard about that.
