My local congressman, Elton Gallegly, has been fighting this for years. Sadly, most republicans only pay lip service to the problem, even Bush.
Thank you! Illegal ~~~Ping~~~
It would be nice for the US to stay the same size. But, realistically, does anyone who is concerned about future national security want the US to be a quarter of the size (population-wise) of China 50 years from now? The only way -- only way -- that the US can remain the strongest country in the world is to boost its number of people. Period. Do it legally as much as possible, but don't fret about rest.
I apologize for telling such a truth on Monday morning.
"Assuming these rates of increase do not rise a tenuous assumption at best our population will rise by an added 200 MILLION in less than 50 years. "
Ah, linear extrapolations are our friend! :P
There aren't enough Mexicans in Mexico for that to be true!
Then END all such programs - take away that incentive. I have no problem with those that want to enjoy our freedoms, I just don't want to support them to the detriment of my family.
I reckon you're right. I read that to say that the 200M would come from immigration alone.
But then, as you say, 200 million more Americans ain't necessarily a bad thing, on its own. :)
A couple of corrections:
The estimated number of illegal aliens already here is closer to 31 million.
Per Bob Shieffer at the last Presidential debate, some 8,000 illegal aliens per week are crossing the border. That equates to more like 4.16 million new illegals per year.
But, we know they are only coming here to clean toilets at Holiday Inn. What 25 Chechnyans?????
On the bright side, Under Secretary of Homeland Security Department, Asa Hutchinson is shipping 300 per month back to Mexico. So, he's on the problem.
But I do think this wave of illegal immigration is a bad thing when there are simply so many of them that they do not assimilate into society (AND SPEAK ENGLISH) as prior immigrants have done in the past. Also, I have a big problem with the lack of enforcement of existing laws relating to illegal immigrants.
And when you look at how this impacts our national security in the war on terror, I think this is an even more important issue than ever.
Bump!
Thanks SheLion, but I am hollding off till after the election for this one.
Thanks SheLion, but I am holding off till after the election for this one.
Estimated by whom?

That assumes each illegal alien crosses only once.
The US and China (thanks to Bill Clinton, Mad Albright, Sandy Sam Samuel Sam I am I am Berger and Co.) will have a nuclear exchange in the next 10 years, greatly reducing the populations of both nations...
Deuteronomy Ch.6:Vv12-17
Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.
Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;
(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
With the birthrate of US born Americans declining to below a level necessary to sustain the current population, does anyone doubt the truth in God's judgement?
BTTT!!!!!!!!
"Assuming these rates of increase do not rise a tenuous assumption at best our population will rise by an added 200 MILLION in less than 50 years."
If you think traffic congestion is bad now, just wait. The best part is, most local and state governments can't afford to build new roads, and onerous regulations implemented since the 60s make building new roads even more expensive.
You'll get people saying that we need "smart growth" to avoid these problems--but their idea of "smart growth" has nothing to do with population and everything to do with roads and housing.
Enjoy living in your high-rise chicken coup in 50 years. It'll be fun, won't it?
