The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

With the nation on high alert for al-Qaida terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security is putting its border officers through "etiquette" classes to soften their image and make them less threatening to arriving foreign immigrants, WorldNetDaily has learned.

The authorities must also kindly remind all the armed criminals that they need to register their pieces. It is a legal requirement, afterall. ;)

Looks like el Maati chose a nice vacation spot. ;-)

We keep looking to Mexico, but all these guys have been in Canada or threatened to come in from Canada. I hope we are being just as vigilant along our northern border.

the only people who knew what was coming in Germany during the 30's were the so-called "fringe" type.

That's always been the case. In fact, I'd say that freepers more than fill that niche, I'm proud to say. Being on a war footing in this case doesn't seem to be following the historical precedents of the past. I hope no harm has befallen this brave patriot. But if F.O.B. are up to their old tricks again, I'm not sure if the climate exists in this politically charged environment to take it anywhere because of the polarization of the electorate and the usual suspects in the liberal media. IOW, there will be an outcry and probably a patsy assigned and then it will go away.

Good to hear the border patrol is rounding up people... I think a lot of folks along the border are keeping their eyes open for irregular activities. A friend of the family lives in southern AZ and he says much the same about some of the ranchers in the area.

The environment today is also a little more "real time". I wonder what effect that has on those of us with our finger on the pulse, in terms of what this event could have been.

I would expect the polorization to amplify any reaction to an event such as this. There are a lot of koolaid drinkers on both sides.

I agree, but I think that the media will serve well in their role of chaff dispersal such that the "Kool-aid" drinkers will just fade into the background. The media will put so much clutter material into the air that the real edges of the problem will lose their definition and just fade away, especially if something earth shaking occurs in the meantime. "Overtaken by events." F.O.B. always get's away with the crime. I think of those guys as the real life equivalent of the "cigarette smoking man" in the X-Files.

Latin America on Alert for Terror
KansasCity.Com

[Excerpt]

MONTERREY, Mexico - Governments throughout Mexico and Central America are on alert as evidence grows that al-Qaida members are traveling in the region and looking for recruits to carry out attacks in Latin America - the potential last frontier for international terrorism.

The territory could be a perfect staging ground for Osama bin Laden's militants, with homegrown rebel groups, drug and people smugglers, and corrupt governments. U.S. officials have long feared al-Qaida could launch an attack from south of the border, and they have been paying closer attention as the number of terror-related incidents has increased since last year.

The strongest possible al-Qaida link is Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, a 29-year-old Saudi pilot suspected of being a terrorist cell leader. The FBI issued a border-wide alert earlier this month for Shukrijumah, saying he may try to cross into Arizona or Texas.

In June, Honduran officials said Shukrijumah was spotted earlier this year at an Internet cafe in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. Panamanian officials say the pilot and alleged bombmaker passed through their country before the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft in May singled out Shukrijumah as one of seven especially dangerous al-Qaida-linked terror figures wanted by the government, which fears a new al-Qaida attack. A $5 million reward is posted for information leading to his capture.

Mexican and U.S. border officials have been on extra alert, checking foreign passports and arresting any illegal migrants. In a sign of a growing Mexican crackdown, eight people from Armenia, Iran and Iraq were arrested Thursday in Mexicali on charges they may have entered Mexico with false documents, although they did not appear to have any terrorist ties.

In bin Laden's Tracks
New York Daily News

In 2001, the CIA's chief of counterterrorism, Coffer Black, confident that Osama Bin Laden would be killed or captured, ordered his senior man on the ground to bring back the terrorist leader's head on a platter.

He was taken literally, reports Philip Smucker (author of the book "Al Qaeda's Great Escape") in the History Channel's "Targeted: Osama Bin Laden," premiering Monday night at 8. The operative "ordered out for dry ice in order that he could preserve the head and bring it back on a silver platter to the White House."

"Targeted," which begins "Reign of Terror" week on the channel, looks into the way Bin Laden established his Al Qaeda network after the Russians were driven from Afghanistan, and how he got away after being cornered in his Tora Bora hideout.

The program, rich in film footage, travels to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia as it follows the Bin Laden tale. There are enlightening interviews with former and current CIA agents, best-selling writers like Mark Bowden ("Black Hawk Down"), Washington insiders and Special Forces soldiers.

Even if you haven't followed the story of Bin Laden closely, this excellent account sorts through the confusing details and answers many questions.

If you read between the lines, it can even throw some light on why we're in Iraq.

The programming continues Tuesday at 8 p.m. with the debut of "Inside North Korea," a remarkable look at the closed society now in a nuclear standoff of sorts with the U.S.

Kim Jong Il has ruled the country since the death in 1994 of his father, Kim Il Sung, who founded the Communist regime. Leadership styles of father and son are contrasted, with the current leader getting the worst of it.

Considering North Korea's isolation, the program has amazing details, including information about the country's brutal and hidden gulags. Comments one disillusioned North Korean: "To me the whole nation is a prison, Kim Jong Il is the warden, his followers are the guards, and the people are the prisoners."

Other "Reign of Terror" premieres that should be on your must-see list: "The Real Dr. Evil," a portrait of Kim Jong Il, Tuesday night at 9:30, and "Tyrants on Trial," about the prosecution of dictators, Wednesday night at 8.

Iran plays down strike threat
The Australian

TEHRAN today disputed remarks by Defence Minister Ali Shamkhani apparently warning of pre-emptive Iranian strikes on US troops in neighbouring countries, claiming they were misinterpreted.

"The statements of the defence minister have not been reported accurately - to some extent they have been altered," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted as saying by the state news agency IRNA.

"We will not sit (with arms folded) to wait for what others will do to us," MR Shamkhani told Al-Jazeera TV on Wednesday when asked if Iran would respond to a US attack on its nuclear facilities, speaking in Farsi through an interpreter into Arabic.

"Some military commanders in Iran are convinced that preventive operations which the Americans talk about are not their monopoly," he said, according to the translator.

"America is not the only one present in the region. We are also present, from Khost to Kandahar in Afghanistan; we are present in the Gulf and we can be present in Iraq." But Mr Asefi said there had been "misinterpretations", adding, "Mr Shamkhani said that we would defend our territory and national interests and would allow no one to attack the Islamic republic"

"If anyone attacks our country, we will respond with determination."

Mr Shamkhani's remarks were seen as an extension of an exchange of threats between Israel and Iran in recent weeks focussing on Iran's nuclear program.

Iran insists that the program, centred on the construction of a nuclear power plant at Bushehr, is purely peaceful but the US and Israel in particular fear it conceals efforts to develop atomic weapons.

Speculation has arisen that Israel may strike at Bushehr, in a repeat of its attack against Iraqi nuclear facilities at Osirak in 1981.

Mr Shamkhani added: "We will consider any strike against our nuclear installations as an attack on Iran as a whole, and we will retaliate with all our strength.

"Where Israel is concerned, we have no doubt that it is an evil entity, and it will not be able to launch any military operation without an American green light. You cannot separate the two."

"The US military presence (in Iraq) will not become an element of strength (for Washington) at our expense. The opposite is true, because their forces would turn into a hostage" in Iranian hands in the event of an attack, he said.

Pakistan forces attack suspected Al Qaeda hide-outs
ABC News

Pakistan's military used helicopter gunships and artillery to pound suspected hide-outs of Al Qaeda-linked militants in mountains near the Afghan border on Saturday, officials and residents said.

The military launched its assault near Shakai, a remote village in South Waziristan tribal region, where militants are believed to be hiding, but there was no word on casualties.

Wana is 400 kilometres south-west of the capital, Islamabad.

Military spokesman Major-General Shaukat Sultan said the assault came after militants stepped up their attacks on security forces in the region in recent days.

He said several suspected militants were killed in an exchange of fire on Thursday.

The military suffered no casualties in Saturday's attack or Thursday's clashes, he added.

A military official told Reuters on condition of anonymity that security forces had retrieved the body of one of the militants killed in Thursday's fighting and he was believed to an Uzbek.

Hundreds of foreign militants, including Arabs, Chechans and Uzbeks linked to Al Qaeda and their tribal allies are thought to be hiding in South Waziristan.

Militant traning area

The forest-laden Shakai has been used as a training area for Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda until recently, officials say.

The military said in June it had destroyed a house of a tribesman near Shakai where al Qaeda men used to stay and had also targeted a militant training camp and an Al Qaeda safe house.

Sultan said militants had been flushed out of the area, which was now under military control.

The Pakistani military launched two major operations in March and June against militants from bin Laden's network in which more than 200 people were killed.

Pakistani intelligence officials say that a large number of militants fled South Waziristan after military operations and had taken shelter in major cities.

The security forces have launched a massive crackdown against Al Qaeda-linked militants in the urban centres and have arrested more than 60 suspects since July, including a computer expert who has proved a key source of information about Al Qaeda plans to launch attacks in Britain and the United States.
