We were only partly successful in escaping the cold...it was even near-freezing at our motel at Padre Island that year!

I think I must have been there then. I remember walking across the bridge and the temp was reported to be 35.

To: Hootch; All
-Jim and Nick's in Birmingham AL
-Bubba's in Lexington(?) NC
-Rendevous in Memphis TN (if you like dry)

Overall I like NC style best and definitely PORK better than Brisket, but can enjoy both!

OH - and for ribs - I have two favorites:

Charlie Vergos Rendevous in downtown Memphis - GREAT ribs!
http://www.hogsfly.com/

And the only BBQ I like at our local BBQ joint is their ribs - really good dry ribs - Nick's BBQ in Carlisle, Arkansas

ANGELO's BUMP!!!

(in Ft Worth just off White Settlement cant remember what street it's actually on...)

My dad raised us on Angelo's BBQ. My fave there is the sliced beef sandwich.

Hubby and I went there on a recent visit to Ft Worth. The atmosphere there is still great...but...Alas, they have removed the saw dust from the floor, but the sandwich was great. I recall many good times with my family there.

Ponca City has a respectable BBQ spot called Head's Country BBQ. Has great ribs and sliced beef sandwiches.

VOA, I think I went to that tasty freeze in Tonkawa. It is just across from the high school isnt it?

Your grandmother made a helluva pie. I have eaten many of them and nothing else compares. One of the best eatin' spots on the whole planet in my opinion.

Friend, I know (as you do too, since you are also a long-time Freeper) that irony, sarcasm, tongue-in-cheekdom, wise-*ssness, &etc., are hard to communicate on these boards. With that in mind, I put the little wink emoticon ;-) after my comment so anyone would pretty much know that I was being a bit playful.

My comment was friendly, and perhaps as a Yankee, I knew that I really couldn't say much ('cept I HAVE eaten ribs in Memphis at the Rendezvous and at the place with the wet ones too).

Further, I lived for 4 great years in Cincinnati (some would say Walt's Hitching Post does decent ribs), and 7 years WAY upstate NY. So, I have pretty good flyover credentials myself.

With all that said, I meant no snobbery--just having a little fun.

Dr. Hogely Wogely in Van Nuys.

Used to go there all the time. While the sauce smells and tastes great, it gave me a migraine every time and I never could figure out why. Still, it does not compare to

Johnny Reb's of Long Beach, CA on Long Beach Blvd!!! Yummmmmmm.

Circle H BBQ in Decatur Tx. None of that boiled pork stuff but real beef BBQ and soft rolls the size of softballs that they throw to ya.

Nah, just I have been bugged lately by the newbies.

It seems like we have a lot of them and they are getting aggresive and abusive.

I also in a bad mood -- but that doesn't change the attack of the newbies.

Yep, I've bought the sauce...it's good stuff.

I know the place you are talking about across from the high school...but I can't remember the
name of the place.
The Tastee-Freeze of maybe 20 years ago was about three-four blocks to the east
of that location.

BUT, the diner with the fantastic burgers/sauce was in the downtown area
right next to the railway tracks and just across the street (north) of
the major "elevator"...the place where we dropped off harvested wheat.

I thought that was place was an orignal "Tastee-Freeze"...but now I'm gonna'
have to check with Ma and Pa to see if they recollect the actual name.

Shoot, I'm gonna' start humming "Memories" from "Cats" if I'm not careful...

Angelo's is on White Settlement, about halfway between Jacksboro Highway and University Drive.

Can't have sawdust on any restaurant floors in Fort Worth, by order of the Fire Marshall.

We used to go to a place in downtown Fort Worth for a pop or two after work on Fridays, a place called Billy Miner's. It was a real body shop....used to drink beer, eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. The FD stopped that too. Peanut hulls must be a fire hazard.

Smokehouse is my favorite in KC. Golden Rule is my favorite in Birmingham. Carolina barbeque comes with slaw on it. Ugh.

There is a barbeque place in Flowery Branch GA. It is in an old bus with a drive up window and looks like it is falling down. The train track is right behind. Haven't eaten the barbeque there, but we got some great bait for fishing. (Oh, War Eagle!!)
