A Few of FR's Finest ....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :) If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

On the regular e-mail list for updates from our Senate Majority Leader, Senator Bill Frist,
today's begins with the following:
"I am in Istanbul Turkey attending the Istanbul NATO Summit. I have attached below my remarks delivered to the luncheon meeting on Sunday celebrating the seven new nations that have been admitted to NATO this year (Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia). The remarks summarize my view of NATO and the direction it should take in the future.
As you will hear later today, NATO has agreed to train and equip forces for Iraq -- quite a coup given France's previous public protestations. The new countries admitted are truly inspirational and have a real love for the United States.
Before I left, we were able to finish last week strong on the senate floor: we passed both major defense bills, the Africa trade bill, a resolution supporting our troops in Iraq , and confirmed for the three week period a total of 24 judges.
Bill Frist
Good afternoon. I begin by welcoming all of our distinguished visitors, particularly the heads of state and senior officials from NATOs newest members. Its great to have you here with us today and even better to have you as allies.
I also want to thank the German Marshall Fund (GMF) of the United States and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) for hosting this wonderful conference. This has been a superb meeting. The format, topics, and participants blended well to produce a dynamic opportunity to discuss the major issues facing the NATO alliance today.
Finally, I want to thank the people of this wonderful city, Istanbul, for their warmth and hospitality. Their eagerness to make this conference a success has been inspiring. There is no better setting in which to reflect upon the diversity of our alliance, our common history, and the great challenges and opportunities before us.
Turkey once anchored NATOs southern flank in a struggle that divided a continent. Today, Turkey is a beacon of hope on the frontline of a war that seeks to terrorize the civilized world.
***
(This was followed by a lengthy report on the NATO Conference and our positions.)
Bit by little bit - drip by little drop - we are gaining ground - - -

Borrowing from another FR Thread:
President George W. Bush listens to French President Jacques Chirac during the
opening working session of the NATO Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, June 28, 2004.
Speaking to reporters later, Chirac criticized Bush for his strong support of Turkey's
bid to enter the European Union. (Larry Downing/Reuters)

In response on the thread:

I am reading Sammon's book Misunderestimated (highly recommended read).
Chirac is nicknamed in EU as Chirac Iraq!
In 1972, Saddam and France forged a deal and when it was highly criticized by the world community, Saddam released a statement that said an attack on France would be considered an attack on Iraq. Hah!
France was considered the world leader in the 1700's, the 1800 belonged to the British and undeniably the 1900 and now it looks like the new century 2000 belongs to the United States, Sammon mentions. The EU and others are jealous. Let them eat cake!

How are they gonna spin this, I can only wonder. Perhaps something like "DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ UNRAVELS....Bush is so inept he could no longer hold the reins and was forced to relinquish them to Alawi as insurgents rallied in weekend attacks...Cheney's job in greater jeopardy as Bush ratings plummet to new lows; nervously watches Guliani who may be eying the VP spot...Paul Bremer melts down upon hearing he no longer has a post at CentCom...Condi Rice, Colin Powell and Donald Rumsfeld seen cleaning their offices before joining the Witness Protection Program and fleeing to New Zealand to start a sheep co-op..."
Sound even remotely like what they'd come up with? I promise I don't write for the alphabet networks--and I'd never take a dime of their money if I were starving to death!

I'd say that all adds up to some real, tangible successes in this war...irrespective of the howling of the liberal media or the lamentations of their benefactors, our enemy. BRAVO!!! Fantastic commentary, thanks for putting this is all in perspective.

You just reminded me of that old Kenny Roger's song, "The Gambler"... You gotta know when to hold 'em/Know when to fold 'em/Know when to walk away/Know when to run. I think the enemy just got trumped with Bush's Ace-in-the-Hole!

Kind Lady, I just got online and found out we transfered sovereignty to Iraq today!
FANTASTIC! I am SO proud of our President, our military, and everyone who made this possible!
On another subject, the pictures you posted of lightening and rainbows were beautiful. :^)

"I will be praying for Dawn and her family, Mayor." Thank you for this, KM, that I had skipped over.
Rus, please tell Dawn we are so sorry to hear about her beloved grandmother, that we continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to touch Russ with His mighty healing power, and comfort all involved.
Our hearts go out to her, and we so admire her beautiful spirit and strength.

I can see it; it's of our President. But, sometimes, others can see pictures, and I can't! I don't know why, though!
Last night, I practiced and practiced, and I can now do real cut & paste! (Thanks to you, dear Freeper Friend!) But I don't understand why a graphic can be seen on "preview", but then, sometimes you get only a red X when it's actually posted! I've still got a lot to learn!
To: LadyX
Great pic of Dubya there. Dubya need to take Chirac to the woodshed. Or, better yet, sic Cheney on him ! :^D
