I saw the Carters in person last month, at the law school graduation of their grandson and my son. You're right, she just oozes bitterness. Even at such a happy occasion as a graduation, she looked like she was sucking a lemon.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. But note that near the end of her remarks, she credited Gorby for his statesmanship, almost "forgave" him, while the film clip showed the famous Reagan-Gorby handshake.

Mulroney is quoting Francois Mitterand's praise of Reagan. Chirac must be squirming, wherever he is -- that is if he's even watching, which I doubt. Nice touch Mr. Mulroney!
