"Hudna" has a very specific meaning in fundamentalist Muslim societies. It refers to a temporary cessation of violence between believers (Muslims) and non-believers, like Jews and Christians.

The purpose of a "hudna" is to provide the Islamic side with time to replenish their weapons and strengthen their position until they gain enough advantage to wage war against their enemies again.

The meaning and history of the concept goes all the way back to Mohammad's conquest of Mecca, when he declared a ten-year "hudna" which he ended at the most militarily opportune time.
