Don't we can keep down what is a fullblown revolt insurgency in a few days.

You omitted "think" in that post, in more ways than one!

What you are not understanding is that we are killing them and are in their face.

This is the only way they will fear and respect the coalition forces and is the only way that is effective to neutralize the threat.

It minimizes innocent casualties and maximizes the elimination of the insurgents.

It will cost, but bombing from 30,000 feet garners no respect and effect. It is a losing proposition. It generates hate and loathing. It does not change the situation on the ground and only hides it.

The hand over date will remain. it is very important that it does, both politically and in the forward process of democratic conversion.

This date was not plucked out of the air by us. It was requested by them and we are going to make good on it as best we can. I believe we will.

God bless our Marines and protect them. Their work today is very important.

I do not object to intelligence gathering. However, I do take issue with the execution unlawful combatants.
Who is to say who is what on a battlefield? Oh yeah I forgot the bad guys! LOL!

Our troops should avoid non combatants as much as possible, but they should not have the fear of shooting the killing the wrong person on the battlefield.

You see when you have these rules, then the bad guys take advantage of it. For instance, in Vietnam there were plenty of women and children armed little hidden bombs and guns to kill our troops. Heck we have seen it in Somalia more recently and Israel last week. There is no way for our troops to tell who is lawful, and who is not until its too late. I believe our troop safety is a combat zone is paramount to any bogus rules of war.

LOL..no problem...I lived 45 minutes from Pope AFB...and we'd have the regular C-130s flying over all the time at seemingly treetop level.

Once saw a lone C-130 with two close fighter escort...

I never want to know what was on that flight.

;)

What's amazing is the firepower those things have. The firepower it has is the reason most of the time you see footage of them firing they are firing on the inside of the bank they're making. The sheer force of the rounds cause the plane to want to yaw away from the muzzle. They create a doughnut of fire and destruction. Forget the 2 20mm Vulcan cannons...the 25mm Gatling gun...the Bofors cannons (ww2 era weaponry...good stuff still with a bit of modification)...It's got not only a 105mm howitzer but a 105mm cannon to boot.

Bad a$$ CAS machine.

I think al-Douri is dead (Leukemia) but he would be a logical resident of Fallujah in some ways.

How old ARE you?

For the longest time I thought that date that appears when you put the cursor on a poster's name was his birth date. ;o)

US military on the ground reported that they have killed approximately 80 of the enemy, but they just keep coming. The enemy has stated that this is jihad, holy war.

I guess we couldn't have asked for better than that. If they attacked the Marine 1D HQ, then we've got a lot of folks in the area. They'll seal off the surrounding districts, and squeeze the bastards to death.

I know Bret means well, but the wounded ARE casualties. Does he mean KIA? The media confuses everything.

This idea of creating a Muslim democracy in Iraq (or anywhere for that matter) sure isn't turning out too well. I'd give this thing a few more months before it becomes obvious to everyone that no Islamic democracy is going to happen in Iraq.

Overheard in 1780 (4 years after the declaration of independence): "This idea of creating a democracy in the American colonies (or anywhere for that matter) sure isn't turning out too well. Savannah, Charleston, and Camden have fallen, finances are a mess, food shortages, the citizens are divided, troops grumbling, facing shortages, and some mutiny, even Benedict Arnold has turned. I'd give this thing a few more months before it becomes obvious to everyone that no democracy is going to happen in America."

Now a large minority of them hate us, and the majority are flat indifferent.

And yet just a quick scan of breaking news would find a few threads down this factual refutation of your base premise:

ABC Poll: Shiite Arabs Oppose Attacks; Islamic State Is Not Preferred

It was really the democrats that cut off funding for the South Vietnamese that caused that failure over there. Nixon had little to do with it. If we had kept funding up it might have never happened

Oh, Agreed! Not inconsistent with my post at all. Distracted by Watergate, Nixon was not able to strongly support the South Vietnamese leadership (who weren't very popular in the US, truth to tell), and, once he was replaced by Ford, the Democrats in the House and Senate (which they controlled at the time as you no doubt recall) cut off the money to fund the South Vietnamese.

Looks like the Sunnis and the Shiites may be working together in Ramadi.

Sunnis, Shites plus.

Bret Baier stated that the generals on the ground reported that some of the enemy are well trained and the enemy's operation was well planned.
