We don't want people living off welfare in projects, aborting their children because they fear they can't afford them. When people live like that, they vote Democratic. Bush camp changes travel plans [On to Michigan!] In '94 we didn't have the internet, blogs, Fox, etc. But we had Rush. Back then C-Span was even our friend because people actually turned there to get their news unfiltered. Newt was everywhere, spouting politically incorrect music to our ears.
The media sleep-walked through the entire campaign, actually making fun of the Contract. By election day, they were predicting perhaps a modest GOP pickup. They attributed it to a president's losses in the midterms. But they hadn't picked up the strong GOP tide. I swear, when I voted that morning I felt like I was going to float off the ground.
And then the exit polls started coming in...you could feel the icy gloom coming through your TV. Rats were falling from coast to coast, including the Rat Speaker of the House. First we learned we'd taken the House and then...we took the Senate, too!
Right now, this election feels exactly the same to me.
