Face the Nation: Once More, the DJ Doesn't Get It
Oregon Magazine ^ | January 19, 2004 | Larry Leonard

January 18, 2004, 7:30 A.M. PST on Face the Nation, CBS-TV – I have been hard on Bob Schieffer before. The reason is always the same. It is the same reason this time. There he sat in Iowa, talking to Senator John Edwards, who clams to be surging because his positive message reflects his small town connection with the “people.”...(snip)

The reason the White House and congress is in Republican hands today, and the reason the former Democrat registration majority of 51% has shrunk to 31% is that in the past ten years a gigantic town hall has been created in America.

The structure has two components. Talk radio and the internet. Both are interactive in nature. That is, they are two way streets.

Unlike the New York Times or NBC, those who frequent these information sources participate in the discussion, just as if they were in a hall with the journalists and candidates....(snip)

What can’t survive the breath of free speech is hypocrisy, demagoguery and the silly, almost catatonic bias of old-time media powers like Bob Schieffer.

He reminds me of the DJ’s who in the Fifties for seventeen weeks played the number one hit in America...(snip)

Article says most folks don't know the Ballad of Davy Crockett. That we can fix.

As sung by Fess Parker:

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee, greenest state in the land of the free, raised in the woods so he knew ev'ry tree, kilt him a b'ar when he was only three. Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!

Fought single-handed through the Injun War, till the Creeks was whipped an' peace was in store. While he was handlin' this risky chore, made hisself a legend for evermore. Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier!

He went off to Congress an' served a spell, fixin' up the govern'ment an' laws as well. He took over Washin'ton so I heered tell, an' patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell. Davy, Davy Crockett, seein' his duty clear!

When he come home his politickin' done, the western march had just begun, So he packed his gear an' his trusty gun, an' lit out grinnin' to follow the sun. Davy, Davy Crockett, leadin' the pioneer!

He heard of Houston an' Austin an' so, to the Texas plains he jest had to go. Where freedom was fightin' another foe, an' they needed him at the Alamo. Davy, Davy Crockett, the man who don't know fear!

That's Davy on the right with trusty sidekick George Russel on the left. Actually both fellows were on the right---Ebsen and Parker were good Republicans, so I hear tell :)

It always has amazed me how much alike Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone looked. They could have been twins.

Come to think of it, you never saw those two together...

It was conservatives changing the face of radio, and e-mags like Oregon Magazine, plus the ubiquitous internet discussion forums, that broke the decades long lock on the flow of information by a few liberals like Schieffer. His ignorance, therefore, may be a matter of self-defense. Finally, the Democrats are facing true media democracy, and hate it. That proves the hypocrisy of their mantras.

Yes, Gore bemoans the lack of "diversity" in mass communication, the inability to have liberal voices heard in the "strangehold" of conservative airwaves. Dean would break up the Fox network to ensure a "level playing field". What they really whine about is that fewer and fewer people are buying what they sell -- too many more interesting products out there. Indeed, they do hate it.

Bob Schieffer.

Who's that?

No - really. The article doesn't say who he is, or why I should give a hoot, and I honestly have no idea.

Doesn't sound too important, though.

schieffer is like a guy that they found in a block of ice on a mountain somewhere. They defrost him and he thinks it's 1974, assumes the rats are still in the driver's seat and; uses that pukey arrogance that ratmedia scummers always did during the rat glory days. Rush is right about him though, if Rush doesn't watch him so he could tell us what they lil dick weed said, nobody would know how ridiculous he is. Kind of like the tree falling in the desert thing.
