[history]
Almost total silence.
Clinton began her spiel by introducing a quote from legendary Indian peace activist Mahatma Gandhi.
"He ran a gas station down in St. Louis."
It took two days before Hillary apologized. Sort of. And that, only after the head of the Gandhi Institute of Nonviolence, an organization founded by Gandhi's grandson, blasted her words as an ethnic "stereotype" that "could be incredibly harmful."

The guy sitting in for Colmes (I missed his name) raised his eyebrows and, with a slight tone of incredulity, asked Linda Chavez if she didn't respect Gandhi for bringing India out from under British rule peacefully, and then helping to create the largest Democracy in the world.
Linda smiled and brushed him off, saying that yeah, she did appreciate those things, but added that Gandhi should not be held up and lionized. She said, "he is no hero", or something close to that. It was ballsy and very politically incorrect, but then, Linda stands on solid ground. (She reminds me a lot of Ann Coulter, in that she is extremely self-confident and happy with who she is.)

Yeah CNN is reporting that this racist gaffe would have more weight if Hillary 'had a history' of racism in her past. Then they went on to mention all of the wonderful things she wrote in her book about india, and all of the charitable organizations she donated to that give to india.
It was sickening and I remembered why I never look at that channel.

Not only was her joke in very poor taste, not only was the joke just plain dumb, Mrs. Clinton's delivery of her joke was exceptionally bad - completely flat tone and no facial expressions. To top it off, Mrs. Clinton's acknowledgment of her snafu was atrocious. I would say she performed as expected.
That's the way I would expect her delivery to be.
I wonder if there is a video clip of her remarks?
Hope this doesn't spook her.
I want her drawn out of the weeds and into the '04 prez race.
Let the battle be joined sooner rather than later.

Ever a beacon for truth and enlightened, another FreeRepublic thread inspired me to follow up with further research.
This is just one of many documented references:
The Gandi nobody Knows.
"At a dinner party shortly afterward, a friend of mine, who had visited India many times and even gone to the trouble of learning Hindi, objected strenuously that the picture of Gandhi that emerges in the movie is grossly inaccurate, omitting, as one of many examples, that when Gandhi's wife lay dying of pneumonia and British doctors insisted that a shot of penicillin would save her, Gandhi refused to have this alien medicine injected in her body and simply let her die. (It must be noted that when Gandhi contracted malaria shortly afterward he accepted for himself the alien medicine quinine, and that when he had appendicitis he allowed British doctors to perform on him the alien outrage of an appendectomy.) All of this produced a wistful mooing from an editor of a major newspaper and a recalcitrant, "But still...." I would prefer to explicate things more substantial than a wistful mooing, but there is little doubt it meant the editor in question felt that even if the real Mohandas K. Gandhi had been different from the Gandhi of the movie it would have been nice if he had been like the movie-Gandhi, and that presenting him in this admittedly false manner was beautiful, stirring, and perhaps socially beneficial."
Well, it doesn't change what he achieved, but I'm glad I know, from many documented sources mind you, that there is another side to this man.

I hope that pic and caption gets around. The message would be lost on her supporters, however.

Is there a reason no one is calling for her to resign ala Trent Lott? She maligned an entire ethnic group with her lame-o attempt at humor.
Imagine if it had been a Republican.
I think she is getting off waaaaayyyy too easily.

Hillary's Gas Gaffe Noxious... As always, she gets a pass.
I'm gonna to give the editor an A+ for humor. Every time Hillary says speaks, she passes gas.

I think she is getting off waaaaayyyy too easilyNah, she still has the Korean 7-11 owners, the Chinese Dollar Store owners, the Ethiopian taxi drivers, the Italian pizza shop owners, the Irish drunks, the Scot tightwads, the NYT Clymers, etc., etc. to joke about before anyone notices.
Oh, and she still hasn't got into the Earl Butz joke book yet.

I think I heard Sean remark that Ganhdi was great for taking on the British empire and that's always a good thing?
Anyone else hear that last remark?
