Bush to Propose Broad Amnesty Tell Congress to Say No! We regret having to interrupt your holiday season with bad news on the immigration reform front, but the Washington Post reports this morning that President Bush and Karl Rove-in order to appeal to Hispanic voters-are poised to announce a sweeping amnesty plan during the second week of January. If you like amnesty, mass legal immigration, and the continued unprecedented decline in the American economic standard of living, you'll love President Bush's proposal.

While the details of the plan remain unclear, President Bush is expected to propose an outline modeled after legislation currently pending in the House and Senate, H.R.2899 and S.1461. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Representatives James Kolbe (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) introduced these bills. This upcoming plan will undoubtedly reflect what President Bush meant when he announced last week at a press conference that he wants to match "any willing worker with any willing employer."

Follow up your faxes with phone calls. Call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 and leave a brief message telling the president no to his amnesty plan. Call the Speaker's office at 202-225-0600 and the Leader's office at 202-225-4000 and leave a brief message. Tell Speaker Hastert and Leader DeLay that Republicans should not abandon their law and order principles by advancing the open borders policies preferred by Democrats.

Your faxes and phone calls will be needed continuously over the course of at least the next three weeks. Please ask your friends, family, and coworkers to follow your lead in making their voices heard as well.

Giving illegal aliens legal status does nothing to improve our national security. In fact it would take years and years to do background checks on the estimated 9-11 million illegal aliens who could be eligible for amnesty. An illegal alien who was amnestied in 1986, after all, later masterminded the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.

Any guestworker program leading to legal status for illegal aliens is an amnesty and threatens homeland security by encouraging more illegal immigration. Every time an elected official talks about the possibility of granting amnesty to illegal aliens, it says to would-be illegal aliens that they had better get into the United States while the getting is good.

This program would reward people who have cheated the system with permanent residence. This country is based on the rule of law-it should not be manipulated by people who have cheated their way to the front of the line.

The current recovery from economic recession is unique in post World War II recoveries in that it comes without any benefit for American workers-just more offshore job outsourcing, low paying jobs, and an accompanying decline in the nation's standard of living. I couldn't agree with you more. If you listen to Dubya speak you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. You hear it in his opposition to abortion, and his support for faith based initiatives, and school choice. Dubya is a leader who REALLY does have compassion for all people. It is not just words like "I feel your pain." In this respect he reminds me of Ronald Reagan.

The leftist media WILL point to Buchanan as an example of conservative bigotry while ignoring 'rats like Sen Robert Bird, or Congressman Jim Moran. This will change in time as today's conservative ideas become tomorrow's norm. I believe true conservatism is based upon the teachings of Christ...and Christ did not abandon whole races of people. And as far as I am concerned Bush is just as much of a criminal as Bill Clinton for what he is doing to this country right now. No, Clinton made an agreement with independent counsel Robert W. Ray to admit making false statements under oath in exchange for avoiding prosecution when he left office.

Bush never pardoned Clinton for anything.

Ok, I erred in my remark about Bush pardoning Clinton. I own up to this mistake.

On the second point about you making a statement about those like me and others who call Bush evil:

1. I do not put my trust in a leader who shuns responsibilty to protect my country from invasion. He might as well be delivering us unto a den of thieves.

2. I do not trust a president who takes his orders from www.cfr.org rather than administrating the law in his executive capacity like he really should be doing.

3. Colin Powell's son sits as chairman of the FCC which explains why much of the conservative talk shows are going off air.

No, but evidently you have some trouble with logic. You posted a quote from Ray Haynes, as if his essay supports your position. It does no such thing, which is obvious from a reading of the entire article. Haynes was a supporter of Prop 187, and actively sought to have the Prop reviewed by the Court of Appeals.

As for Lundgen, whom you characterized as "pro 187", I have no idea where you got that. Maybe the news gets distorted when it travels from California to Pennsylvania. If Lundgren ever once mentioned Prop 187 I never heard about it. But what would I know, I only live in California, and from what I've learned here at FR a good many of the "experts" on what goes on out here live 3,000 miles away.

Ray Haynes specific quote was "In 1997, supporters of Proposition 187, Pete Wilson and Dan Lungren, held the position of governor and attorney general."

Could you name one please? I hear Rush, Hanity, O'Rielly, Savage, and Mike Gallagher on the radio. Fox news is still going strong and MSNBC has Scarborogh.

I suspect if conservative shows are going off the air it has more to do with ratings than some conspiracy. As a matter of fact Powell has been trying to reduce FCC rules and allow more cross media ownership. It is the 'rats and liberal Republicans who are trying to stop FCC reform.

I've been tuning in every day to KRLA just to hear Putnam come on but then Medved comes on. Then I turn it off.

I find it to be an insult when I hear of a conservative radio station being taken over by foreigners who refuse to speak English! It's like right in our faces. You can't blame them alone on this cause the chairman of the FCC played a role in this as well.

Lundgren didn't campaign for Prop 187 when it was on the ballot. Wilson did, and only after it became obvious 187 was going to win by a huge margin. Lundren never mentioned 187 at all in his later run for Governor. It could be that you have a better view of California politics from your bunker next to Punxatawney Phil than those of us who have lived here for decades. Apparently you think so.
