In a demoralizing message to U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq, visiting New York Sen. Hillary Clinton told them that Americans back home are growing increasingly skeptical of President Bush's decision to send them into battle.
Describing two meetings with G.I.s over turkey dinners in Baghdad, Sen. Clinton told reporters later that soldiers wanted to know "how the people at home feel about what we are doing."
Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."
She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."
Despite her sour pronouncements, the former first lady insisted that the soldiers were just as glad to see her as they were President Bush, whose surprise visit less than 24-hours earlier was greeted with standing ovations.
"It's a positive for the commander-in-chief to visit troops in the field," Clinton told reporters, adding, "the troops [also] seemed to appreciate seeing myself."
Speaking from a secure location just over the Kuwaiti border, Mrs. Clinton launched one verbal salvo after another at the White House, arguing that Bush officials had been "obsessed" with getting Saddam Hussein and saying the perception blinded them to the difficulties of deposing his regime.
"The Pentagon tried to make do with as few troops as possible, as light a footprint as they could get away with," Clinton said. "Now, we're playing catchup . . . Unfortunately, I don't think they fully appreciated the conditions we would encounter."
The top Democrat also reprised her charge that the White House is being less than candid when it comes to apprising the American people of the costs of the war.
"The obstacles and problems here are much greater than the administration usually admits to," she said, adding, "Everybody has to be honest."

As former military who's been visited by high level political figures, here's how I would have taken her comments:
"We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."
--Suggesting that they'll lose in Iraq and die.
"Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the (Bush) administration's policies."
--Suggesting that the American people's support is fading.

--Suggesting their bosses are failures who don't care about their lives.
I am so glad this creature isn't co-President anymore.

The bad news is that, while all of us rightfully despise this evil bitch and everything she stands for, there are a substantial number of people in this country that believe she would be an excellent president.
Whenever she actually announces her intent to run for the Presidency, the next civil war in this country has started.

My Letter to the Editor (to 5 newspapers)
Here in Hot Springs, there were TWO STRAIGHT DAYS of front page headlines repeating a LIE concerning troops being brutalized after being killed in a report designed to demoralize the American troops and American citizens through references to Somalia.
There were TWO STRAIGHT DAYS with some inane headline about some pro-Saddam Iraqis complaining that President Bush did not walk around Baghdad (so they could attempt to assassinate him?).
There was only ONE DAY recalling President Bush's historic visit to Iraq to show the troops his, and the nation's, gratitude for their service.
BUT...there were ZERO DAYS reporting on Hillary Clinton's vain attempts to demoralize the American troops in a war zone in Afghanistan.
Clinton said she told the troops, "Americans are wholeheartedly proud of what you are doing but there are many questions at home about the administration's policies."
She also suggested that the U.S. could eventually loose the war in Iraq, contending, "We have to exert all of our efforts militarily, but the outcome is not assured."

OK, the troops were thrilled to have her there, we could hear them cheering all the way back here. We noticed how thrilled they were by all the smiling faces around her. What a skank, the troops were just being polite in her presence and she thinks she was as liked as Bush? She was actually hurt by Bush's visit and is totally pissed that she was upstaged. A shinning moment turned into a candle flicker.
Whats with her companion, did they remove his tongue? They should have taken Chuck Schumer instead, can you imagine what it would be like having the two of them hogging the cameras? No one would have gotten a word in with the two of them there.

"The media will start beating her drum the week after election day 2004. She will increasingly do things to appear moderate, tough, and defense friendly." I have to agree with riri. Having said that, the media has changed drastically since 1992 and even 1996...primarily due to FNC. Hillary will need to enter enemy territory, one that didn't exist on a national scale during "her" first two terms as co-president.
Additionally, I believe at least 5% of the American public have wised up and crossed the line against The Clintons since; Monica, Impeachment, The Pardons, 9-11, GWB Presidency. The Clintons never got more than 49% of the vote, and I think their support has waned at least a few %'s from there.
