According to a new poll, nearly half of Republicans say they will leave the Republican Party to join a third-party created and led by former President Donald Trump. That doesn't bode well for the Republican establishment.
The new poll by Suffolk University-USA Today found a whopping 46 percent of Republicans are willing to leave the GOP in order to a join new party created by Donald Trump. Just 27 percent of Republicans said they would stick with the GOP, and the rest are undecided.
"We feel like Republicans don't fight enough for us, and we all see Donald Trump fighting for us as hard as he can, every single day," said Brandon Keidl, a 27-year-old Republican and small-business owner from Milwaukee. "But then you have establishment Republicans who just agree with establishment Democrats and everything, and they don't ever push back."
No wonder establishment Republicans jumped at the opportunity to disqualify the former president from running for office again. Nearly half of GOP voters are willing to abandon ship to join a new Trump party.
And Republican voters aren't looking the other way when it comes to GOP lawmakers who supported the failed second impeachment against Trump. Eight in 10 Republicans said they are less likely to vote for a Republican politician who supported impeachment. Ten House GOP members aligned themselves with Democrats to impeach Trump, and seven GOP senators did the same in the Senate. Many of the defecting Republicans are now facing censures and primary challenges back at home.
The poll also found that a large majority of Republicans aren't overlooking voting irregularities in November's election either. Some 73 percent of Republicans said Biden wasn't legitimately elected president, and most Republicans don't want to see their elected representatives cooperating with a president they consider illegitimate.
A third party sure sounds like a losing strategy, but so does the Republican establishment. The polls seem to show that a large majority of Republicans simply want someone like Trump to fight for them every day. People are tired of Republicans who seem to only have a spine when it comes to denouncing their fellow Republicans.
The gop has a platform that they run on...
They refuse to adhere to it after being elected...
They lie to our faces time and time again..
And expect us to continue to vote for them...
Spit
Gotta agree 100%, about the illegitimate president!
Agreed. I want to get a membership number under 100!
The key is the millennials. They don’t like us so we have to open their eyes. They’re all under 40 so what would it take? I say offer to privatize their SSI counts so they’ll get SOMETHING when retirement comes. Right now they don’t know they’re getting screwed. Existing retirees + those over 40 can get paid from the general fund.
It’s long overdue for stringing some of these rats up. Our Founders would have done it a long time ago.
BUT TED CRUZ went on vacation. GET HIM!!!
I said here today that Trumps biggest enemies were and are Establishment RINOs.
The problem would be after he bowed out, to age or whatever. Will he build a political structure that will survive?
biden is more connected to China than to citizens of the US... giving China access to our power grid is turning it over to our enemy. WHAT WAS HE THINKING!!
globalist vs a patriotic American
I would suggest an issue that can attract Democrats: drain the swamp by passing a Constitutional amendment that would put in term limits and give the President a line item veto on spending.
Establishment republicans say a third party is a losing proposition - only a month into the Biden administration. With nearly half of Republicans ready to jump already, I’m willing to bet that by the time the 2022 elections roll around, a third party, led by Trump, will have the momentum to swamp both current Republicans and Democrats.
They ain’t seen nothing yet!
The only thing Republicans respond to is force. Decapitate the two Medusas, Cheney and Murkowski, in the primaries next year and the message will be received.
Oh they saw it coming they just continue to take comfort that history has shown a majority of center/right citizens will vote for the Republican simply because "he/she isn't a Democrat after all".
The "vote for the lessor of two evils" bunch which in my opinion describes a majority of Republican voters for the last couple of decades.
Mr. Trump, a non politician, is the first candidate in decades to actually stimulate and excite the conservative wing, which is much larger than the establishment realizes, into taking excitedly participation in the process. The GOP hasn't had this much enthusiasm since Ronald Reagan.
It will be quite interesting to watch and see if the rank and file will forget what the GOPE did to bring Trump down, come 2022.
Nothing would make them sit up an re-take stock than loosing a few seats in 2022.
Many unenrolled will support a third party or a takeover of the Republican Party
Why would anyone ever willingly vote again using the same corrupt computers and software? I hear no talk about it anymore.
Unless the vote fraud is cleaned up and the 2020 election is corrected FIRST, thinking about parties, voting, and 2022 seems a complete waste of time.
>>The key is the millennials. They don’t like us so we have to open their eyes. They’re all under 40 so what would it take? <<
Screw ‘em. Let them live in Venezuela Grande. I retire next month, will not need SS (but will take it in a few years if it is still there as it is owed tome) and have no children.
They want socialism? Let them have it — good and hard.
The nerve Trump struck with the GOP was intolerance with the corrupt swamp dwellers, which turned out to be the majority of Democrats, and majority of the GOP. Many elected Republicans would rather see the Democrats in charge than give up the graft that has so enriched them. Win or lose, a third party around DJT would at least occupy the high moral ground. Isn’t that what it’s really all about?
The secret poll that terrifies them even more, is that 5 to 10% of Democrats would probably step across eventually also. Because in truth, Trump was never a doctrinaire conservative. He can get along fine with unions, he has a very strong America first protectionist bent. And he is disgusted at the fleecing of America just as many Democrats are. He’s not a racist, and he has no problems with homosexuals.
As the Democrats become open communist, and the Republicans are clearly an un-American party whose first loyalty is with the Sunni Saudis, NATO and China, even attracting 5% of Democrats to the new party would destroy politics as DC knows it.
Patriot Party, baby! Crush the Gelded Other Party!
Works for me.
