Sanders was asked by Chuck Todd for his reaction to the attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, and he said, Its horrific. Its unthinkable, and just hopes go out to those who were shot that they can recover, and Ive got to tell you for twenty-five years now, Ive believed that we should not be selling automatic weapons which are designed to kill people, and weve got to do everything we can on top of that to make sure that guns do not fall into the hands of people who should not have them. Criminals and people who are mentally ill, so that struggle continues.
Todd followed up by asking if the nation can ever have a conversation about terrorism and guns without politicization. Sanders answered, I do, Chuck. Because I think that there is a very broad consensus in this country, not a hundred percent of the people, overwhelming majority of gun owners and non-gun owners understand that we have got to do everything we can to prevent guns from falling into the hands of people who should not have them. That means expanding the instant background check. It means doing away with the gun show loophole. It means addressing the strawman provision. I think there is a wide consensus to move forward in that direction.
After each mass shooting, pro-gun extremists always tell the nation that now is not the time to have the discussion about the ease of the ability to purchase deadly weapons in this country. They said it wasnt time after Sandy Hook. They said it wasnt time after Charleston, and they will say that it isnt time after Orlando, but if not now, when?
What the NRA and others never say is that in their view there will never be a good time. No one is talking about confiscating weapons or taking guns away, just ending the enabling of mass killers. Sen. Sanders was correct. There is a broad consensus on the steps that he outlined nationally. What is missing is Congressional Republicans with the guts to take action.
If the Republicans get booted out of the Congressional majority in November, it is a certainty that Democratic president and Congress would take long overdue steps on gun violence because this isnt political. Its national security.
Have you never shot an AR-15? A decent rifleman can fire one rapidly.
But that isn't the point. HE SHOT SO MANY PEOPLE SO FAST BECAUSE THEY WERE PACKED INTO A CROWD. He probably got 2 people for every bullet. At least.
And by the way, regardless of what criminals do, I am keeping my AR-15's. Mine have never killed anything but paper and animals.
Do you work hard at being an ass or does it come effortlessly?
“Have you never shot an AR-15?”
I’ve shot the one sitting in my closet a whole mess of times.
Yeah, I can dump a mag as quick as the next guy, but you merely caught me pondering out loud. Maybe I should have kept my thoughts to myself, but what good is that? Better to think and question out loud, and blueprint our collective thought processes together, here on the forum.
Others, like yourself, have made very good points about how this killer was able to do so much damage in such a short time. Some have even provided links to videos and speed shooting info, that has helped others to understand how this was probably executed.
I’m just glad I could stimulate the group to walk and talk with each other through this terrible incident. The input of those who chimed in, has been invaluable.
Thank you.
“He was inside for about 3 hours before the SWAT finally went after him.”
That’s new info to me. I had no idea the duration of the incident was that long.
Still, it doesn’t seem likely that he was killing people for the whole three hours, does it?
I would guess that he did most of the damage within the first few minutes, which tends to indicate that he was functioning like a cold blooded, calculating, and well trained killing machine, at the outset of the attack.
>>>Youre really hoping this terrorist had a machine gun, arent you?<<
I am.
If he didn’t have an (Illegal) Automatic Weapon, the Liberals will say that a standard Semi-Auto AR-15 is just as deadly as one.
It will be the new Meme. In CA they are passing Legislation that any Semi Auto with a detachable Magazine must be Registered as an Assault Weapon.
Get it now?
There are recordings of the Police being told not to enter the Building and to stay down. (or words to that effect.
Only heard the recording one time and didn’t know what it was until the Wife told me.
I heard the recording. The person on the radio told the police on the scene, if he could see their faces they were not taking proper cover or words to that effect.
I work at it.
You’re the one who doesn’t get it. If you want to give up your 2nd Amendment rights, fine, but don’t give up mine.
I have no idea WTH you are talking about.
I was merely outlining what the Left will do, which is what they always do. They are as predictable as Hillary’s Cackle.
I’m old enough to remember when you buy a Surplus WWII Anti Tank Cannon from an Ad in the back of a Magazine. Don’t recall any crimes being committed with one of those outside of the plotline in that Clint Eastwood Movie way back when.
Liberals blame the Second Amendment for everything. I blame Liberalism for undermining our Civil Society which has brought this fight to the forefront.
Scratch a Liberal and they bleed Tyranny.
The Second Amendment has been fine and dandy throughout this Nation’s History and it will be long after we are gone.
“Shall Not Be Infringed” means what it says and says what it means, period.
