If youre Donald Trump, you cant buy publicity like this from his enemies in San Diego yesterday:
As hundreds of protesters outside his rally here Friday afternoon chanted obscenities, waved Mexican flags and clashed with police, Donald Trump reveled on stage in the drama his candidacy has created.
More:
One poster referenced Trumps wife, who immigrated to the United States from Slovenia: The Art of the Deal. Deport Melania. Legalize 11 million. Another: Trump, Shame of America. Another: Jesus would not vote for Trump. And: Racist, go home.
As the rally progressed inside, a few protesters including two women not wearing shirts were escorted out of the convention center by police officers and cheered by the protesters. As a yellow helicopter circled above, a speaker blared a expletive-filled song about Trump. The crowds most popular chant was: F Donald Trump! FDonald Trump!
Dozens of local police officers and sheriffs deputies carrying riot gear stood guard outside the convention center. As the crowd became more and more agitated, one officer said to his colleagues: Hats on, guys, hats on. With helmets on, the police formed long lines across from the barricaded protesters. At one point, a handful of protesters tried to rush out of their protest area and were beaten back by half a dozen police officers with batons. At least one protester then spit at a police officer and others threw water and small objects.
The crowd then started chanting: F the police! One woman tried to change the vibe by chanting: Keep the peace!
These foul-mouthed, Mexican flag-waving, anti-police protesters are doing Trumps work for him, more than making up for his deficits as a candidate. What did Trump talk about in his actual San Diego rally? Look:
The Republican Partys presumptive presidential nominee gave a fiery speech in San Diego and sought to leverage the power of his pulpit to shame one of this citys federal judges, Gonzalo Curiel, who is hearing a class-action lawsuit against Trump University.
Trump delivered a lengthy monologue about the years-old case involving students who claim they were defrauded by Trumps real estate university. He delved so deeply into details of the case at one point, he talked about the origin of the name of the law firm representing him that he seemed to lose the attention of his crowd.
Trump is utterly self-involved, and lacks discipline. We know this. But what will people who werent at that rally know about what happened there? Threats of violence, riot police, Mexican flags waving, cursing mobs.
If I were a Democrat, I would be very, very worried about this kind of thing. I completely understand why Latinos and others would be enraged by Trump. But your emotion does not justify this kind of reaction, not if you want to defeat Trump. This is something that the SJW left never understands: how they look from outside their passionate, self-involved circles. They are as solipsistic in their own way as Trump is but in their case, they are helping elect the man they hate.
The SJW militants are not going to be able to help themselves this summer in Cleveland. Its going to all redound to Trumps benefit, you watch. Im not saying I want this to happen. Im saying that it will happen.
UPDATE: A reader writes:
I was at the rally (not a Trump fan to put it mildly, but 2 grandkids wanted to go). From what I could observe at the rally itself, on the way out afterwards, and on local TV when I got home at about the time that confrontation was escalating, the ones determined to make trouble were Anglos, not Mexican Americans. The latter, like the Trump supporters, seemed quite civil. On both sides there was some jeering back and forth, and some of the signs were offensive, but thats about it.
Friends of Jerry Brown showed up.....LOTS OF THEM.
Why is it stirring up the uncivil is so easy? Did they learn nothing of proper manners from south of the border down mexico way parents? Manners are what holds a civil society together and ensures future success from the individual to the amalgamation of all.
I do not object to the uncouth and crude among us. It is no way to secure ones desires in fact such garish activity works against the achievement of victory in a civil and respectful society.
So the Mexican whoperdoper mobs and lefty loon agitators can hoot and holler and burn all night long with my blessing. They just spin themselves and their foreign flags into nothing but a tempest in a teapot but sure makes for really good fun!! Have at it!! I note they hold their foreign banners aloft proudly while disdain for America, from which they demand much, emanates from every pour and orifice with great drama. The spectacle makes it seem likely these anarchists will reject the ballet box in total,—so be it. For sure as a sunrise they will lose if they then choose bullets.
God bless those that make order in chaos. That risk life to save life. Those that stand at the ramparts on watch guarding our civilization from hordes at the gate.
There are no gates. The hordes are upon us.
friendly latinos waiting for the Trumpsters to come out of the rally:

I will agree with the lady in the article that said most of the trouble was caused by a very few but I dispute it was primarily ‘anglos.’ It was a very high-energy rally, Trumpsters had been there for hours and wanted to cap the event with some food and drink. It was ‘Trumpsters’ day, so to speak, so the protestors should have just gone home after their 4 hours of ‘free speech zone’ time - and most did. However, some protestors headed to HardRock, where they started grabbing hats and throwing things at the Trumpsters, who didn’t appreciate the ‘buzz-kill’ (why do people restort to throwing things??):

The Hardrock scene brought in wholesale police presence who declared the assembly unlawful and broadcast ‘the people of the State of California order you’ to get gone. We also heard the helicopter telling people to go home.
The most confusing protest sign we saw was “I refuse to allow my country to be colonized twice”. Listening to talk radio as we made our way back to North Harbor, the most common protestor chants were F.Trump, F. the Police, who’s streets, our streets. The funniest chant was the Trumpsters to the (many) minors: you can’t vote, you can’t vote
I’ll say, of 12,000+ Trumpsters, 99.9% had no problem getting into town, getting into the convention center parking, standing in a YUGE line for entry and egressing the same way when the rally was over. The only hitch we had was, directed out of the 5th Ave parking and over the bridge towards the Barrio (where the hardcores were eventually herded to), there were no temp detour signs to help get us turned back towards Point Loma, but we managed to figure it out and were comfy back at our hotel well before the time the attention-hungry were being herded onto the bridge. We went out to dinner that night and saw no problems and experienced no problems on the way out today.
All in all, I felt more safe in San Diego than in Anaheim. SDPD, etc., did an outstanding job protecting our rights to assemble and keeping us safe before and after the rally. We were blessed by chance meetings with two (our age) Bernie supporters who were interested in what Trump had to say and we had pleasant interactions with them; neither were interested in voting for Hillary.
btw, for those in the SD area, the Trump for President SD office is having their grand opening at 2150 1st Avenue, SD. 619 area code 255 nine789. You can sign up to volunteer and/or pick up yard signs, bumper stickers and t-shirts.
“Ted” (not his real name) Cruz agrees!
I don’t know if Trump wants their support.
What is SJW?
Social Justice Warrior.
I had to look it up on Google. SJW = Social Justice Warrior.
