Now that he has very likely secured the GOP presidential nomination, Donald Trump has turned his attention to a running mate. Trump brought Ben Carson on board to help him decide on a VP nominee, but don't count on it being Carson. The former Republican presidential candidate announced Thursday he was taking himself out of the running. When asked who Trump was considering, Carson reportedly mentioned a wide candidate pool that could include Democrats.
Carson told The Wall Street Journal, "We would consider people who are Americans and who put America first." If that includes a Democratic name, the chances of Trump bringing together an increasingly divided GOP party seem almost impossible.
In fact, who Trump ends up choosing will be important, considering Paul Ryan's remarks about needing the presumptive presidential nominee to unify the GOP. It's entirely possible that, once he gets to the Republican National Convention in July, the delegates won't accept his choice.
Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski doesn't think that's likely, though. "I cant imagine any scenario where the GOP nominee doesnt have the opportunity to pick his own vice-presidential candidate," he said.
Regarding his decision to drop out as an option for vice president, Carson said: "Im not interested in doing that for a number of reasons. I dont want to be a distraction. Im sure you remember how crazy the media was about me, I dont want to be a distraction, its too important a time in our life."
In March, Trump's former rival endorsed him for president. "Theres two different Donald Trumps," he said at the time. "Theres the one you see on stage and then the one thats very cerebral, sits there and considers things very carefully."
Jim Webb went overboard in his opposition to Bush, but he was right about the Gulf Wars. If we’d listened to Webb instead of the Bushes and the war profiteers, we would not be bankrupt with a military running out of Schlitz like we are today. I don’t know if anybody can turn us around now, but we don’t stand a chance with ordinary politicians.
Lol.....perfect -That's all I have to say.
I agree with you there, no doubt about it and he was right about the Gulf Wars. But Obamacare? Porkulus? Dodd/Frank?
Every leftist thing that came along in the senate, Webb was on board. To me, that’s the perfect example of politics as usual. He could have brought attention to it and stood up to it, but he didn’t.
Besides, Trump is very good at threading the needle himself and really doesn’t need a Dem VP pick. He should go with a more mainstream ‘conservative’ Republican IMHO to shore up the less bright on our side. You know, the types who go nuts because he ‘would be open to looking at’ raising the minimum wage (means nothing) or says nice things about Planned Parenthood while pledging to defund them if they continue to do abortions.
He was my first thought.
I think Trump's first concern with his Executives is Competency, but there is nothing wrong with combining it with Good Looks.
Look no further than Ivanka. Competent, Confident and a Looker all wrapped up in one package.
If Trump wants to win, he can't back-stab us right out the gate.
“Their is only one choice and it is Rubio, “
Nope, not a cube. certainly not a Hispanic loyalist foam dancing cube with a homo porn producing friend.
[I mean, Zell Miller isnt going to run, is he?]
Or maybe give a thought to Jim Webb. I still think there are many good Repubs. who would be a good choice. Just so long as Trump does not sell out and name one of the establishment elites.....you know, like H.W.Bush loser, loser, loser.
I agree. I’d like to see him at least officially switch parties first though.
There's not a Democrat breathing who fits that description.
There'd better damn well NOT be a stinking Democrat on the ticket or I'LL stay home.
I believe she is NG, still active.
No thanks she voted for Obama
