One day after a report that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questioned Donald Trump's "judgement" in a private event, Trump called out Cruz for criticizing him behind close doors but refraining from negative comments in public.
Looks like @tedcruz is getting ready to attack. I am leading by so much he must. I hope so, he will fall like all others. Will be easy!
.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!
Cruz has so far refrained from bashing Trump in public. After Trump announced his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the United States, Cruz disagreed but stopped short of condemning Trump's remarks.
But the Texas senator spoke about Trump and Ben Carson during a Manhattan fundraiser on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.
"Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now thatâs a question of strength, but itâs also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them," Cruz said of Trump and Carson.
Cruz has started gaining on Trump in the key primary state of Iowa, which may be making Trump uneasy. The real estate mogul has a habit of attacking his Republican rivals when they rise in the polls, as both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal noted this week. Trump may have released his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country in an attempt to boost his support with evangelical voters in Iowa.
I hope we can stop the circling firing squad and simply fight Hillary and her failures and unite around the primary winner.
Poor judgement on Cruz's part if he doesn't stand behind his remarks.
This is a simple public-relations game between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz to take-down Ben Carson and Marco Rubio ...
Well, Trump did not start this.
just a fact
Will someone please explain to me what an Iowa Evangelical is?
Hmm....somebody preaching the Gospel with a Bible in one hand & an ear of corn in the other?
;^)
I’d rather see them work together than fight but if you are going to criticize the other one don’t do it behind closed doors.
Or Trump could man up and say what’s on his mind.
Then Cruz needs to be accountable for his remarks. We don’t need a Romney 47% hidden tape moment. Admittedly what Cruz said is fairly innocuous, but he dodged the first couple of questions on it. Seeing the direction this is going with Trump starting to tie Cruz to big $$ donors, and the fact Cruz is virtually alone in 2nd place, possibly leading in Iowa, this is not good timing IMO.
What exactly did he say that was “criticism”? Please quote it.
poor little thin-skinned pooh boy can’t handle someone saying that he thinks he won’t be the nominee? Can’t handle someone saying that he thinks theres a natural arc? There was exactly zero criticism in Cruz’ comments. Yet another example of Capt Kardashian being a reality show candidate and not, in any way, a person remotely qualified to be the leader of the (sort of) free world.
He has. And I’m sure he will continue. Hope Cruz is ready for it. This isn’t Mitch McConnel or Lindsey Graham.
Here’s the point. Who was Cruz making his remarks to? Big money donors, in Manahattan, behind closed doors. Cruz is very skillful at playing the outsider game for the conservative public, but in private, he’s every bit the politician that the rest are. The fact remains that no matter what Cruz people say, he is controlled by monied interests, same as Bush, Rubio, and Carson. Trump is not. Trump is right. This will be easy. Cruz has already been defined as an insider by the very fact that he is an elected official. And people in 2015/16 hate elected officials. Further, Trump makes deals, he works with people to get things done. As hard as it is for the Cruzers to accept, Ted can’t get anything done and most of what he tries is for show, like he’s ridiculous bill to give states the right to opt out of the refugee program. And lastly, if you listen to the audio of him at the fundraiser, he’s a typical politician. Smarmy and condescending. Small anecdote. My mother and my girlfriend are all in for Trump. They think he’s a man’s man. They look at Cruz and immediately say he’s slick and think he’s lying. Cruz does not play well nationally or with women. Trump will do extremely well with all demos in the general.
Well, Donald, the gloves were coming off soon anyway. And, I’m not so sure about your judgement either. I read and listened to what Cruz had to say at the fund raiser, and it honestly seems like much ado about nothing to me. They are all going to be questioning each others judgment from here on out.
Agreed. When I heard what Cruz had actually said, I thought, wow, a bunch of hubbub about nothing!
So what does Cruz owners ohhhh donors demand from him in return?.....
Cruz is just a more stealth DC owned politician.
I like and respect both Donald and Ben. I do not believe either one is going to be our nominee. I don't believe either one is going to be our president. I think both of them, their campaigns have a natural arc. And with both of them I think gravity is pulling them down... Carson is further in that descent. You look at Paris, you look at San Bernardino, it's given a seriousness to this race, that people are looking for: Who is prepared to be a commander in chief? Who understands the threats we face? Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that's a question of strength, but it's also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them. So my approach, much to the frustration of the media has been to bear hug both of them, and smother them with love. People run as who they are. I believe gravity will bring both of those campaigns down, I think the lion's share of their supporters come to us
So, it wasn't an attack on them at all. It was one candidate saying he is a better choice. Of course he'd say that. It's hardly reasonable to attack a candidate for putting himself forward as the best choice.
Trump is playing everyone for a fool.
He’s doing the same thing Perot did in 1992, stopping information from coming out against the Clintons and the dems that would send the Clintons and dem party to the ash heap of history.
Trump is helping Hillary create a new and improved version of the “spontaneous” lie.
The new and improved spontaneous lie is supposed to be the terrorist are responding to the “right wing extremist hate speech”.
The idea is to claim the Benghazi terrorist got the idea to attack from the “right wing extremist hate speech” comparing Obama to Peanuts Carter.
You obviously didn’t follow Texas politics if you think Cruz is an establishment insider.
