Here’s the point. Who was Cruz making his remarks to? Big money donors, in Manahattan, behind closed doors. Cruz is very skillful at playing the outsider game for the conservative public, but in private, he’s every bit the politician that the rest are. The fact remains that no matter what Cruz people say, he is controlled by monied interests, same as Bush, Rubio, and Carson. Trump is not. Trump is right. This will be easy. Cruz has already been defined as an insider by the very fact that he is an elected official. And people in 2015/16 hate elected officials. Further, Trump makes deals, he works with people to get things done. As hard as it is for the Cruzers to accept, Ted can’t get anything done and most of what he tries is for show, like he’s ridiculous bill to give states the right to opt out of the refugee program. And lastly, if you listen to the audio of him at the fundraiser, he’s a typical politician. Smarmy and condescending. Small anecdote. My mother and my girlfriend are all in for Trump. They think he’s a man’s man. They look at Cruz and immediately say he’s slick and think he’s lying. Cruz does not play well nationally or with women. Trump will do extremely well with all demos in the general.

You obviously didn’t follow Texas politics if you think Cruz is an establishment insider.

Considering the vast opposition to Cruz among insiders in his Senate election, in the Senate and in this race, I am hardly worried about the monied interests behind Cruz. Anyone running a billion dollar campaign has to have supporters - both grassroots and monied. Even Trump has interests. Look at his eminent domain position. It’s self-interest. That’s simply a fact for 100% of people (minus the occasional Mother Theresa who only serves). In business, politics, charity and more, everyone operates with some self-interest and bias. Cruz is the least of my worries here. Those I see lined up are the more principled conservatives and those with a vested interest in defending western culture and religions.

I am not for or against either of these men, but Cruz has done more to advance conservative causes in the past few years than any individual. He’s stopped bad legislation and advanced good bills and amendments.

It’s an interesting theory, but here’s where it falls apart: Cruz is REVILED by the GOPe. He’s completely managed to piss them off, sending them into fits of stuttering fury over the last few years.

If thats genuine, then you can’t peg Cruz as establishment.

If you want to peg Cruz as establishment, you have to build it on the notion that the GOPe anger at him is competely contrived. That there’s some sort of massive GOPe conspiracy thats managed to successfully suppressed their secret support of Cruz under the veneer of trashing him at every opportunity.

Or, you can just acknowlege that Cruz’ anti-establishment beliefs and actions do appeal to a good number of big-money Conservative donors. Which in no way detracts from the anti-establishment appeal Trump has as well.

I notice the same. My wife, who is very conservative, probably even more than myself, is not a fan of Cruz. Same with other female members in my family, they all prefer Trump over Cruz (or anybody else). My wife specifically stated that Cruz oozes that "politician speak" during the debates while Trump comes across as unrehearsed and sincere.

I had thought that Trump's multiple marriages would hurt him with women. However, the fact that Trump is on his third wife doesn't seem to bother them.

Hey, I can't explain it any better than I can explain women!

Interesting analysis, especially the female perspective.

Yes and Cruz is the 4th largest recipient of Wall street money of the candidates running in 2016. I am very disappointed with his vote on TPA where I think he had to bend a knee and the vote on the Corker bill was a loser. He has some problems.

After Trump Cruz is my number two choice but I am not dumb enough to think he will be able to accomplish the same significant change that Trump will.

I want a mature adult in the Whitehouse and that is Donald J. Trump.

Excellent summation... Of why I won’t be voting for Trump. Trump is answerable to no one. He doesn’t answer to God, he doesn’t appear to understand the Constitutional standard of checks and balances, and he has no reason to “answer” to voters.

I personally like Cruz about as much as Trump.

But starting off — I think it’s fine to support Trump because he’s a leader, he understands high finance budgeting, he’s a time-tested and highly effective delegator, he’s mentally tough enough to squash bad advice from highly educated advisors, and he understands better than any other candidate what kind of a danger our open borders mindset is.

But ...

Your claims about Cruz ...

I’m willing to accept informed input.

“The fact remains that no matter what Cruz people say, he is controlled by monied interests, same as Bush, Rubio, and Carson.”

The info to back your claim is kind of weak — you point out that Cruz never actually achieves anything. But he did lead opposition that thwarted comprehensive immigration. That had to tick off the Establishment, right? He’s also held a banner for the Tea Party.

Without Cruz, I don’t think we would be rallying under Trump right now. All opposition to the Establishment would have eroded, and patriots like Rush might have decided to give up and move overseas.

>> Trump will do extremely well with all demos in the general.

I think f you lump together blacks, Hispanics, Asians, women, Jews, Muslim and gays, he’ll get about 27%. Which is good enough if he gets white men.

The fact remains that no matter what Cruz people say, he is controlled by monied interests,...

Nonsense.

The idea that all "monied interests" are bad is straight out of the Marxist Democrat playbook.

And it comes from Trump and some of his supporters, even here on FR, who don't even try to document where Cruz's big money really comes from.

There are good monied interests and their are bad monied interests. Its up to the candidate to connect with the good money.

Pretty basic conservative, free market, pro First Amendment principle.

He may do well with women and all demos in the general, but he will do piss-poor in the White House because he is a long-established left-leaning “moderate” at best and zero political compass but a great flair for patriotic showmanship.

But......Cruz is now going to be the new favorite of the establishment and MSM to depose Trump. They don’t like Cruz much but they know that he’s Washington and will be malleable. Anyone but Trump; they despise him for besting them all. They tried Carson but he couldn’t make it even under their direction.
