After leading the GOP presidential field in Iowa for months, Gov. Scott Walker is no longer on top in the latest polling.
In a survey released Wednesday by CNN/ORC, Donald Trump leads among Republicans in Iowa with 22%, followed by Ben Carson at 14% and Walker at 9%.
Trump also leads Walker in two other Iowa surveys taken since the Aug. 6 GOP debate in Cleveland, where Walker avoided mistakes but turned in a low-profile performance that was overshadowed by some of his rivals.
In an Iowa poll by Suffolk University/USA Today released Tuesday, Trump led with 17% followed by Walker with 12%.
The latest polling suggests real slippage by Walker in Iowa, where a good showing is vital to his prospects of winning the Republican nomination.
But the numbers also come with some caveats.
One is that most of these polls are better measures of opinion among Iowa Republicans in general than among the small core of active party members who will actually participate in the Iowa caucuses next February.
For example, the CNN/ORC survey started with a statewide sample of 2,014 Iowa adults and identified more than a quarter of them 544 as likely GOP caucus-goers. But in 2012, it was a far smaller slice of the Iowa electorate only about 5% of all eligible voters that participated in the Republican caucuses.
Its also hard to know from these polls how candidates like Trump and Walker are actually trending since last weeks debate, because its the first time that either CNN/ORC or Suffolk/USA Today has polled in Iowa this year. There is no baseline for comparison within those two polls.
Still, taken together, the new polling suggests Walkers status as the GOP frontrunner in Iowa is much more in doubt....

Ethanol ain’t what it used to be.
How low can they go?
How far down is Bush?
He didn’t seem very presidential at the debates. Seems like a nice guy. I think also it’s the exophoria. THe guy has a eye conjugation problem.
I think the guy or gal with the best smile wins.
Polls are two days old. Where are the new polls. Not saying they are wrong. Just that this isn’t new news.
Agreed. Doesn’t seem Presidential in anything I’ve seen, much to my surprise ... BUT ... polls this far out mean not too much.
LOL
Rut Rho! Paging Cincinnatus Wife. :-)
“THe guy has a eye conjugation problem.”
LOL! I can’t believe you said that. Mr. GG2 said something about that the other night and I said yeh he’s got lazy eye. :-)
I can’t understand why Scott Walker should be running this year. We really don’t know for sure if he’s a conservative or a Chamber of Commerce kind of guy. Four more years as Governor and we’ll have a better idea where he is on the political spectrum and if he’s speaking for himself.
Certainly good news to Donald Trump and the other members of Team Clinton.
