Donald Trump may seem invincible right now, but his current run cant last. Even if the belligerent billionaire and current GOP front-runner doesnt implode on the debate stage next week or on the campaign trail next month, the fundamentals of American politics will still catch up to him: At some point the GOP field will narrow and an establishment favorite will consolidate enough support to knock Trump from his perch. Eventually, that means he will exit a nominating battle he cannot win.
Its no surprise, then, that the Washington parlor game of predicting how Trumps campaign will end is now turning into one about what will happen with his supporters when it does.
There is no shortage of possibilities. Writing in the National Journal on Friday, for example, political analyst Charlie Cook pegs Chris Christie and Ted Cruzs camps as likely homes for Trumps backers once their first choice is out of the race. In the Washington Post, meanwhile, James Holmann calls it a jump ball before ultimately suggesting Trumps loss could be Mike Huckabees gain. While the predictions vary, the rationale behind them is usually the same: Whoever wins the Trump sweepstakes will be someone who shares his anti-establishment anger....

Really? No I did not know that. But he was in office 8 years. so a 5% yearly increase does not sound out of line. Florida economy probably grew by 45% during those 8 years. I have not lived in Florida, and have not done any research.
But right now, there is zero chance I would vote for Bush in primaries. So I am not going to worry too much about Jeb Bush.
Trump also has a history of supporting abortion, gun bans, gay rights, government land-grabs and single-payer socialized healthcare.
Show me another "conservative" with a similar history.
I would agree to go with Cruz even though he has to change his viewpoint on bringing in another 325,000 foreign workers when so many Americans are out of work.
Then why did you tell me he cut spending when you had no idea what you were talking about?
But he was in office 8 years. so a 5% yearly increase does not sound out of line.
Where did you get 5%? Florida general fund spending increased by 57%. Total state spending increased by 45%. Over those eight years he was governor, Floridas population grew only 16% and the CPI, which measures inflation, grew 24%. His spending doubled that of inflation and tripled that of the increased population.
The man is a raging liberal. And Trump should have and probably did know that when he endorsed him.
Regardless of what grade of conservatism Trump is, matters little since he is leading the nearest rival 2:1 in the latest major poll which came out today.
Which means Trump is resonating with republicans much more than other more conservative candidate. Trump can actually defeat Bush. Trump leads Bush in every poll going on for over a month now. Which other conservative is ahead of Bush in any poll?
If Trump drops out, Jeb Bush will be the nominee. I am willing to bet money on it.
Yes, Trump is leading the polls. It's funny how so many give polls so little credence until and unless they are pointing to those showing Trump leading the pack of 17. You do realize, don't you, that a poll showing Trump with 23% support means 77% don't want him?
If Trump drops out, Jeb Bush will be the nominee. I am willing to bet money on it.
And we've already established in this very thread that you know very little of what you are talking about. So your predictions, while of import to you, are actually fairly meaningless.
This is typical of the crap we have to put up with these days. This is not journalism. It doesn't even qualify as "advocacy journalism".
This is simply a composting thought process (and I use that term here very loosely) masquerading very poorly as semi-informed opinion.
The author, and his editor (who, in another time, would likely be among the unemployed) offers up sh!t like this in the devout hope that the low information voter, almost all who are products of our institutionalized "educational" school system, will lap this up, quite uncritically, mind you, and regurgitate it for discussion at his weekend's wine and brie party.
But, given the Donald's rising popularity, it would seem a growing number of these LIVs have come to the realization that, education-wise, they've been sold a bill of goods, and the Donald's message strikes an inner chord within them.
If memory serves, the media and "mainstream" politicians tried this tack with Reagan back in '80. It would seem they refuse to learn history's mysteries...or something like that!
For sure, Trump has his weaknesses, and he'll have an occasional moment when he says something that leaves you saying, "huh?". That's OK. Everybody has those moments.
But Trump has big balls, and the total courage of his convictions. He says enough of the right things so that you know you'll be coming back for more.
I was really blase about his candidacy until he formally announced. He did everything right, said all the right things. I knew he was gonna piss off the ruling elite, and that prospect simply whetted my appetite for more.
Yes, I am with the Donald, and unless he massively ****s up, he is going to win.
Of course, it's what happens after that that will make things interesting, chief among them being, how will he dismantle the socialist leviathan he inherits from Obama?
Stay tuned, kids, and make sure you have your decoder rings with you!
CA....
I already said, I have not done any research on Florida. I live in opposite corner of country from Florida. What I care about is the illegals issue. That alone is enough for me to cross off Bush.
But I have spent time studying the nationals polls. Trump is beating the more conservative candidates by 5:1 in the most recent poll. Winning is what matters. Losers become 100% irrelevant. I will go with who is winning and has agenda close to mine. You can stay with some other candidate who is showing no signs of winning.
If you have not done any research and you clearly don't know what you are talking about, why did you say this?
If Bush cut taxes and cut size of government increased jobs in Florida, he cant be a tax and spend liberal progressive.
-----------------------------------------------------
Winning is what matters.
Nominating a liberal whose words have fooled conservative voters into supporting him is not a win.
That also means the candidate which you prefer is polling at 6% and therefore 94% don't want him!
Yes it does, but you don't hear me boasting about the polls either, do you? Moreover, when lifelong liberal Donald Trump's campaign implodes that will change.
Why did you ignore my question? If you have not done any research and you clearly don't know what you are talking about, why did you say this?
If Bush cut taxes and cut size of government increased jobs in Florida, he cant be a tax and spend liberal progressive.
I'll tell you why, Because you are the epitome of uninformed voter. You're the type who believes Trump was invited to speak at CPAC there he must be a conservative. You're also the type to believe because Trump posed with President Reagan he also must be a conservative. You are just the type who skews the polls you deem so important, which is why I don't put much credence in said polls.
Florida is irrelevant for me. I do not live there. Why would I waste my time on Florida? Besides I am done with the Bushes. # huge blunders by Bush-43 are enough.
I am only concerned about national polls and What is going on in my state of Washington.
If Trump wins be sure to send me a congratulatory card.
If your candidate loses, I will be sure to send you a sympathy card.
If Trump drops out, I will sit at home rather than cast a vote for Jeb. Fair warning.
Winner.
And my question stands, why did you defend Bush's record there? Because it was a lame attempt at defending liberal Donald Trump. a man who you clearly know little about. Trump endorsed Bush for the presidency. You tried defending that and you knew nothing of which you spoke. That level of ignorance is what makes you such a good Trump supporter.
If Trump wins be sure to send me a congratulatory card.
That you believe the election of a lifelong liberal would be something to celebrate speaks volumes about you. So be it.
How long ago? Links? I know about the Kelo thing. Trump did not pioneer eminent domain.
He has addressed abortion & guns. I think it is a reach to say that he’s talking about single payer. He said “private” & “across state lines”. That doesn’t sound like government healthcare or sociaiized medicine to me.
He may be agnostic on gays. I don’t think he’s addressed it. It is not a deal breaker for me or for many other people.
America will not be a “moral utopia” if our country is destroyed economically; with mass unemployment & impoverished. That hurts society. It hurts families. And it hurts children.
Trump isn’t billing himself as a “conservative”. He is running as a republican.
I never said he pioneered a thing. But he did support the Kelo decision "100%" and we know why. He did so because he himself tried to use eminent domain to oust an elderly widow from her property.
ATLANTIC CITY A former boarding house that Donald Trump unsuccessfully tried to grab to expand one of his Atlantic City casinos is going up for auction years after the David and Goliath battle.
Trump was thwarted by widow Vera Coking, who is now 91. She fought the state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority from condemning the property through eminent domain in the 1990s. Trump wanted to convert the land next to Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino into a parking lot. source
He has addressed abortion & guns.
Yes, he said what you and others wanted or needed to hear. But he cannot erase his record, a record that includes his support for abortion and banning guns. As recently as 2013 he praised former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg for "Putting his money where his mouth is." Bloomberg wants to take guns from law-abiding citizens and liberal Donald Trump praised him for it.
I think it is a reach to say that hes talking about single payer.
Given that he used those exact words I don't think it's a stretch at all.
"The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than America. We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan, as many individual states are doing. While we work out details of a new single-payer plan, there are a number of ways to make the health care system now in place work more efficiently." ~Donald Trump source
He said private & across state lines. That doesnt sound like government healthcare or sociaiized medicine to me.
Then you believe what he says while trying to get your vote while completely ignoring his liberal past. Given that he has no political record, all we have is his past, and it should not be ignored.
He may be agnostic on gays. I dont think hes addressed it. It is not a deal breaker for me or for many other people.
Call it what you will. But he said we should "Tolerate diversity; prosecute hate crimes against gays." I'm not for bashing them, but I'll be damned if I will "tolerate" the queer lifestyle that I see deteriorating the very fabric of our society. That is a liberal position, but then, Trump is a liberal.
America will not be a moral utopia if our country is destroyed economically; with mass unemployment & impoverished. That hurts society. It hurts families. And it hurts children.
You talk about hurting children but you're ok with liberals pushing the queer lifestyle that pulls them in? OK.
Trump isnt billing himself as a conservative. He is running as a republican.
You are wrong again.
Im actually a conservative with a heart~Donald Trump source
You can back Trump, you can even defend his liberal past. But you should be informed when you do.
Trump is conservative on these issues:
1. Illegals
2. Military
3. Veterans
4. Foreign trade (biggest factor in lack of jobs here)
5. Obamacare
6. Balanced budgets
7. Iran
8. ISIS
9. Infra structure
That is enough conservative for me. Because those are my top issues. You stay with your candidate. I will stay with who matches my agenda and who CAN WIN.
Trump is a lifelong liberal, and that is a fact. So I ask you, why would you believe a liberal on anything? Would you believe Chuck Schumer? Would you believe Hillary Clinton? If so why not? They, like Trump, are liberals.
I am not arguing with you. I am NOT ATTACKING YOUR CANDIDATE whoever it is. I am posting positive things about candidate of my choice. I wish you could do the same for your candidate whoever it is. I will stick with who matches my agenda and WHO CAN WIN. I wish you good health if Trump wins the nomination.
