President Obama's visit to Mt. Holly, North Carolina on Wednesday to discuss energy policy and the economy was technically not a campaign stop, but he didn't shy away from adding some politically-tinged remarks during his taxpayer-sponsored visit.
"The next time you hear some politician trotting out some three-point plan for $2 gas, you let 'em know, we know better," Mr. Obama said, seemingly referencing Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich's pitch to bring gas prices down to $2.50 if he becomes president. "Tell 'em we're tired of hearing phony, election year promises that never come about."
Mr. Obama toured the Daimler Mount Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant, where he reiterated his support for an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy. He commended the plant for building trucks that use less oil, remarking that while domestic oil production should be increased, "we're not going to be able to just drill our way out of the problem of high gas prices."
Mr. Obama announced an initiative to make it easier for towns and cities to build fueling stations for cars that run on electricity, biofuels or natural gas. The initiative would also give tax breaks to families that buy those cars or companies that buy alternative-fuel trucks....

Right. They are looking to exploit the ignorance of the electorate in order to win elections. But I was looking at solutions to the problem. And neither side has a monopoly on solutions. We are going to need to invest in more oil, at the same time as investing more money into infrastructure to get a lot of people out of their cars. Public transportation is going to have to improve a lot. Most of the buses I am on during the day are standing room only. That’s 35 to 40 people that are not driving around in cars. It takes up less space on the road and uses less gas. And it REALLY sucks sometimes when I am trying to get home from my job interview so I can get changed to go to work (by the way, I got the job, which will mean an extra $500 a month), but then I realize that traveling across town and back cost me almost nothing, and my car would have cost me $10 or so.
The problem is going to require an “all of the above” approach that no side seems to want to do.
But gas prices did get up to nearly $4 under GWBs term...And what happened when he announced he was issuing permits for new leases? Dropped back under $2.00 because OPEC didn’t like that scenario.
T.Boone is back to his old tricks, he is saying it is unrealistic, he lies in his article, too and he says he hasn't even read the Gingrich plan. But he has an agenda--and that is money in his pocket--yammerin' just like he did in 2008 and lovin' him some Obama. Creep. He is just pissed nobody is making all the trucker$ run on natural ga$, live off windmill$ and drink only his water.
Now what is the difference[s] between the countries with higher gas prices and lower gas prices?
Newt is carrying his plan out really well. His plan is to siphon votes away from Romney potential supporters to ensure there will be a brokered convention. And Romney supporters tend to be pragmatic and independent (liberal-minded). So the simple issues of gas price resonates with them. And most remaining primaries are proportional. With three-way tie at convention, there is nothing to stop Newt from rocking the house down with his eloquent or thundering speeches!
Why must we keep dreaming down instead of dreaming upwards?
Next it will be we need to get people out of their houses and into giant public buildings. That will take up less space and cost less for all that public transportation infrastructure and the people will be easier to control.
No thank you, if dreaming bigger and better is bad...color me bad to the bone, baby.
I personally like the idea of buying a new truck with a natural gas conversion because not only can I fuel it at home with a compressor station I can also make my own methane from waste products.
And I honestly do believe Newts campaign promise of returning to pre-Obama gas prices because Newt will to an “Eraser” upon Obama.
All that Obama has done will be wiped from the chalkboard and hopefully it will be a Federal crime to name any street, school or library after Obama.
The main difference is that low gas prices are found mostly in oil producing nations. Funny that the U.S. is the most energy-replete nation on the face of the earth in almost all categories yet Obama wants to make us like those countries in the left hand column. This tells us there’s nothing wrong with the United States and with drilling but everything wrong with Obama.
I remember when it went up. I was delivering newspapers at the time and it was hurting my bottom line. And GWB was right. We need to increase the supply, and reduce the demand. “Drill, baby, drill” makes for a great bumper sticker, but it’s not going to solve the problem by itself. We need to get as many people out of their cars as possible. The Austin, Texas bus system is great, if you have the time and inclination to use it. I can get anywhere in town in 2 hours. But there are limits and things that suck. So improvements need to be made in that. We need to develop vehicles that don’t use gas. So I’d like to see tax breaks and cash rewards going to companies that develop an affordable, practical electric or hybrid. It makes sense, right? If 1000 people people are paying $4 for a gallon, and you are able to get 300 of them to use buses, trains, or bikes, and you are able to get 200 of them to use electrics, the demand is so low that prices will have to come down, or more people will want to find alternate means of transport.
Barack Obama’s Oil Lies are Rooted in His Contempt for the United States of America
As Gas Prices Rise, Obama Pushes His Green Energy Money Laundering Operation
In the old days the marketplace, through the profit motive, would have found a solution to this problem.
Cash rewards? Like Solyndra? Throwing away tax dollars to crony capitalist buddies of whoever happens to be in charge is a bad idea.
The President is a liar.
I can believe it.
The guy has more Brass than a Souza band.
You are only seeing half of the picture.
You could build the most massive public transport system you could imagine, and it might work fine for the drones that live in urban areas and commute back and forth to and from their jobs. While they last.
What about the 80 percent of people that don't want to live in urban utopia? What happens to the quality of life for the hundreds of millions that used to have a choice in where they live and where they work?
What happens when you can no longer purchase something on-line and pay to have it express shipped to you because it now must travel to you on “green approved” public transportation or rail? Will you call for an ambulance and be issued a bus ticket?
What is the plan for financing the roads and bridges in the new utopia once we force people to stop driving?
We do not have a shortage of natural resources, we have a conspiracy to maintain our dependence on foreign oil, while preventing exploration of domestic energy.
Any program that directed by government is another step toward slavery.
Wow, you got unicorn power; I’m still stuck on windmills and rainbow power.
Pray for America
Gingrich said $2.50 gas, so if $2.00 can mean $2.50 to Obama then I guess $2.00 can also mean $2.99. Thanks for the extra breathing room. The way it is going we'll be lucky to see $4.00 gas.
Venezuela has 6 cents per gallon. Wow. Those guys are lucky. Would only cost about less than 2 dollars to fill the tank for any car.
Most of us can’t take two hours to get to where we are going. Two hours each way make four hour round trip. That’s half a working day wasted. And trips to do anything would be impossible.
