Your quote of Obama is one of the things that annoyed me about his campaign's energy policy in 2008. No drilling because we will not see the oil for 10 years, then propose solutions that will yield energy in 20 years, maybe. While we need the research into more efficient use of current fuels and into new fuels, great breakthroughs are unlikely (but possible if someone looks for them). Better solar and battery tech would be great, although I doubt we will see anything more than making solar and battery powered recon drones with 2-3 week loiter times practical in less than 20 years.

(My opinion, worth what you paid.)

Dittos! It been bugging me too, for the same reason. The left still spews that bull about 5 to 10 years, and now they toss unproven alternatives out there. Now, eventually, a replacement for the gas powered engine will come about, but the tech and the infrastructure are not there yet, and the changeover isn't going to happen smoothly if our country is driven into the ground!
